Nothing against Blacktip, just to SOG's powerassist system.

I agree with your thoughts on the opening mechanism. Some time ago we got a Power Assist from a member to give away, and he had just gotten it back from the SOG Warranty dept. I opened it up to look at it and the blades fired open. They can't be closed as they won't click shut. No sooner do you pull it out of the sheath than both blades fire out.

Luckily SOG was nice enough to provide a replacement, but yes, you are right about an overly complex system.

I'm not about to give up my Black Tip though!

Yes, if I was into collecting i would definitely keep it.
Also I don't necessary call it a "big" tool, for me, it is a tool with "long" pliers and "long" handles.
It is pretty light for a tool this size, thanks to all the empty space in it.

One more thing, the kinfe blade is nice, but it keep hitting the lock mechanism when it closes, causing flat spots on the blade, unforgivable design flaw.

That's an awesome deal, but the shipping to the UK is $50 for 3 week delivery, or $60 for FedEx3-day.

I'm going to buy 2 of these so that I have 2 of the 'replaceable' handles, and looking at the dimensions I think I may be able to strip out all of the tools and make a housing for a SAK Farmer in one and a stripped-down Cybertool in the other (driver and scissors only). That would be the perfect (if huge) UK EDC for me.

I tried to buy one twice from that site then gave up. The checkout process has some weird bug in it where it wouldnt let me pick Ontario for Canada, it kept correcting it to alabama Canada..

So that failed the CC verification. So I gave up. I wish they took PP as my PP is in US funds so I dont get dinged for currency conversions.

I'll do a proper review, but as a note I'm really impressed with the quality; especially how the fine tips of the pliers meet.

Also the locking system that has the the assisted opening guts stripped out looks like it may be an easy mod to non-locking, but with quite a strong back-spring depending if the 2nd lock is engaged. This would be ideal for UK EDC, so a soft opening, but a stiff closing.

I was put on hold got annoyed an hung up, but I still want one. If their bloody website worked for international orders I'd order one right now.
