Oh,  no, I was talking mainly for my country,  knowing that the same happens in other countries too. Many (too many) Greeks lived by the state to blame the foreigners for that. World Monetary Fund and EU know it. And I pay 60% taxes for them. Knowing that most of them are Greek makes me angry, not happy. But I didn't mean to talk about politics. We have two world class black basketball players in Greece and they both were born here and one has a Greek father. They enjoy many official and unofficial benefits unknown to other black people in Greece just because they play basketball, although there are far right wing people that still express hatred for them and love for other people that exterminated hundreds of thousands of Greeeks 70 years ago.
For me black dog and white dog are always dogs and the same applys to humans. Nation and race divisions are artificial. The national teams are football clubs of a higher order and their symbols (outfit and hymn) are just cultural products one might choose to encompass or not,  independently. Just play nice football please.

We've got not many black people here, but I never saw them any different. They are human, that's all that should count.
Sadly a lot of people doesn't see it that way.
In the end, we all resulted of a microbe billions of years ago.

Agreed 100%
And football is better when it unites us than divides us. This is a stunning world cup to this moment in that matter. Germany vs Ghana had just one yellow card and dozens of offencives against the goal. A second half to remember for years. Both countries advertized football.

A bit of a bummer that the people outside of the market had been 1 minuet ahead of our TV!

I'm not that much into football, but since it's the national team I do try to watch them.

I do find it very sad that well paid "athletes" can't put some more effort into their game, someone as talented as Eden hazard, who only wakes up during the last 10 minutes of the game, Romelu Lukaku who won't even run to get the ball, no, the ball has to be delivered right in front of his good foot ...
(and the way he acted when the coach replaced him, I sure hope Wilmots gives him a good *ss whooping )

The way I see it, we have some very talented players, but we don't have a team.  Back in the 80's and early 90's, the Belgian team had "less talent" than today, but they had great motivation.  Players like Eric Gerets, Jan Ceulemans, and for sure Marc Wilmots (the coach of the national team these days) always kept fighting, no matter what ...

Oh well, football players are way overrated anyway, personally I prefer cycling/cyclo-cross/mountainbike above football ...

Just my humble opinion  :-[.

Oh my... These reporters are dumb!
Just shortly before the second half, they showed the fans in the stadium. There was a man holding up a sign "[player-name-forgotten] marry me!". The reporter was all "wasn't this a man holding up that sign?" [totally shocked] and the other reporter replied "yes, you can that do today" [vocal facepalm]

Is he real? We're a modern world! Gender doesn't count!

We're watching football on the Belgian channel here, because the Dutch reporters are just too annoying

We have especially one reporter, talking about player XY of FC Whatnot and how he is a good player in the home league and all his benefits... But nearly lose not a single word about the actual match! And the things he then says about the match are a collection of figures of speeches

I hear what you're saying, and I think I can say that Belgian television is pretty good in these things, same goes for "vive le vélo" during the Tour de France, always love that show.

i just don't get where the name soccer comes from. as for american football being called that from what I know it's a reference to the actual ball being a foot long

Wiki say it is an abbrevation for Association Football, though this was a silly name to beginn with.  :D

And to relight the hymn discussion: I just saw Jürgen Klinsmann sing the US Hymn. I think you should sing the hymn of the team you play for. Only excuse is if you have some manly problems with high humidity, or a dust particle in the eye, or how you might call it.  ;)

my understanding/reading is it was called "soccer" and football until the 80's when England decided it was "too American/US" a name and started calling it "football" more.

"football" is predominantly played with the "foot" so it fits.

I like the game so far, interesting and it can be exciting for me. Cool colors/uniforms even the ball is interesting and the US team keeps "sailing" it over the goal! SAILBALL?!  :P  ::)

why do they have announcers at all? they don't talk about what's happening during the game (play by play) or give player names and descriptions they just give stats and opinions and have long periods of silence! they get payed for that?!! they suck you were all right ;)

What's a curve ball?
Do you mean when the ball starts flying around an invisible corner?

Why it's called Soccer

Originally American Football used a lot more kicks until the ball shape was changed.

What a game, I had a sinking feeling that they were going to pull it back level.

after the kick it looked like the ball was going "away" from the net but then "curved" back in towards it! (which seems to fool the goal keeper) other games (with smaller balls) do this well and with regularity, I didn't know it was done in soccer! it was cool  ;)

Pump the brakes there. The Sharks announcers are awesome. Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda have both been featured in multiple video games as announcers as well.  :twak:  :D

Basketball sucks all together so no need to even watch it to worry about the announcers.  ::)

Pertaining to Soccer as we call it in the USA. Uhhh..... I don't know. Never liked the sport, never will. Did I just say that.  >:D

they suck! (middle of the pack) they only call like 60% of the game, the rest of the time they talk/tell stories/stats doh A good announcer calls the game during the game and that's it! no stories or prognosis or telling game history stories while the game is going on!

seriously time it next time, how much during any minute of the game are they talking about the game (play by play)? you will see but their are worst announcers out there!  :D

Aww man, that's what I like about them and Drew Remenda doesn't give a smurf about any of the higher ups. If he sees something he doesn't like he puts it out there. I love when he calls out the refs for bad calls.

I hate the machine like boring announcers. I like a little history and laughs with my game. Telling stories and stats are A+ in my book as long as you announce the game simultaneously, which they do.  :twak: Shame on you.  :twak:  :D

We may never agree on this one. You watch basketball though so I can't expect much from you.  :P
