enki is probably still drunk from last night. he was spot on about us not using the midfield and on a number of occasions even in the second half they were giving up a lot of space and not checking long slow passes trough wide open areas. that thing won't fly against Mexico

Agreed.

However ungrateful it may sound after a 4:0 win, but I wasn't too happy with the way we played. We have one of the better midfield lines in the world and haven't used them one bit. We gave their players lots of room and let them come deep into our half without even attacking or blocking them. And we didn't score on a few 100% chances. All of this could bite us in the behind very bad against a strong team like Mexico. :-\ And we need a win against them, a draw is same as a loss.

But yes, at the end of the game the scoreboard looked very nice. :D

...  My brother texted me immediately after the red card with, "Soccer equiv of game misconduct".  Comparing it to hockey helps some, though on Sunday at one point I know I referred to the Swiss forecheck.   Not quite.......

Something like it, but for a thing like that, he'll probably get a minimum of 3 games he won't be allowed to play in any official international games and tournaments, so one this cup and the rest after that. The FIFA board decides these based on the severity on a case to case basis. Such unsportsmanlike behaviors get sanctioned very hard.

Yep that was a cheap shot for sure.  In the NHL it would be reviewed for a possible suspension as well.

I just had four Colombian painters hanging out in my wallpaper department, where we had the game on. Game ended, they all loaded up their orders that had been sitting here for half an hour and left.  One brought empanadas for us.... :)

Uruguay is alive! Sorry English pals. Now it's Greece vs Japan. May the best win but not with an embarassing score.

Must congratulate the Greeks, with-1 they held things pretty well. Still don't understand Japans tactics, aerial balls weren't working at all, why keep trying??!!

No kidding. Although France makes Opinels, don't forget that. And what if they play against USA that makes the Leathermans? What a headache! Thankfully China doesn't participate (they make evetything else).

Public Viewing Screen is errected. The beer wagons are filled up, everythings ready across the street.

I hope everything is ready at the german team as well. I am watching the 0:0 of Argentinia and Iran and I am thinking: The second game seems to be make-it or break-it time for a lot of teams. I hope the Jogi-Elf does not slack against Ghana.

Jetzt geht's um die Wurst!  ;)

P.S.: As I was typing, Messi scored a goal. But that game was not the performance of a world champion.

P.P.S.: The Germany - Ghana match will be a brotherly duell: Jérôme Boateng vs. Kevin-Prince Boateng

"I make me the world, ju-u-u-u-ust as I like it"

It seems this text is unique for the german version, I neither could find an according text in english or swedish  ???

But my first thought seeing this mish-mash of shoe colours was to my childhood heroine!  ;)
As you of course all know Pippi is famous for wearing two different-coloured stockings at all times!

That's the beauty of soccer. The surprise element. Every match is different.
About "mercenaries",  I hate that many people are racist and against immigrants unless they fetch some Olympic medals or score goals,  or make scientific inventions. That happens to my country and many European countries and it is against any logic,  law,  and morality.
The shoes thing is silly,  just another marketing kitch like Ronald McDonald,  Bear Grylls Ultimate Orange and such. We'll have to live with that.

If it ever looks like I'm being racist it's not like that. I'm having immigrant roots too, so it would be dumb to be. But as an immigrant representing the country that gives you such a big opportunity like playing in the national team, you should sing a long the anthem. That's at least my opinion. There are sadly so many immigrants in Germany (some even of the third generation), that WANTS to keep to them self. The times have changed, the government tries a lot (maybe they could do a bit more) to integrate them, but they refuse.
I'm having two Turkish brothers in law. One is a fine lad working hard and understands the world around him.
The other one once was okay, but after marriage turned 180 degrees, refused to make a lorry license so he could get a better and job-safe job in the company he worked and then he let himself been written sick and stopped working all together. He's secretly working for other Turkish peoples and not paying his social tax. He suddenly started going to the Moshe like mad and Bering overly correct with this. He even started to call not-Moslems dumb on Facebook. He sometimes deny my sister to go out and have fun. This kind of people, wasting tax money, just makes angry. He was born and raised in Germany, but can't bring out a proper sentence in German, because he's nearly only speaking Turkish.

Darn! Now I've written to much smurf -.-
Sorry guys
