Great work on the pins and polishing, Neill. :tu:

At first I thought the scales had a nail nick, and then realized that was a reflection from the ceiling.  :D

-----------------------------

Peter, love the scales and tool loadout. :tu: I wouldn't worry about the can opener and would leave it as is.

Yes, its just a reflection. No nail nick.
I may put a little relief into one scale though....I can get the combo tool out OK without it, but it does sit about 1mm too low.
The combo tool is originally from a 84mm knife. I enlarged the pivot to 2.5mm, and had to grind a smidge off the end of the spring, and increase the spring bend to get sufficient snap. Its just right now.

Ball nose cutter arrived. :tu:

Enough to do both scales.

Also tested the 3mm carbide cutter on an unwanted fish scaler - went through like butter. 8)

I made this tonight:

OK, so it's just a Climber but seemed a shame not to use the leftover parts from my Yeoman build.

Bit more progress today.  Drilled all the tools and back springs out to 3mm for the pivots with a carbide end mill.  Drilled the scales to 3mm too, using the outer liners as templates.  Now that they were lined up properly I was able to finish shaping and sanding the scales, and countersunk the screw holes:

They're a bit thick though, so I'll skim a millimetre off the back on the mill tomorrow.

Tested the fit of all the parts (except the tools on the back) on the 3mm pins:

Couldn't resist putting the scales on to see what it looks like:

Turned the threaded pins, milled the scales thinner (it's no longer a Plus, more like a standard Alox) and managed to get the knife together tonight.

Took forever to assemble though - one of the holes in the scales is out of position and the screws are too long.  I had to use a washer that was too thick between the knife blade and the scale so need to find some 0.2mm brass shim to make a thinner one.  Finally, I need to find somewhere to hard anodise the scales for me.

Looking good!

If you cant find a local place for the hard anodize you're welcome to send it over here and I'll include it in an anodize run.  It would have to be 6061 Al though.  The other grades cant take the same current and fry.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

Thanks! They're 6082 and Canada's a fair way but that's a really nice offer. I've got a place in mind (we use them for work) so I'll see if they're prepared to do very small jobs.

Looks just like the finish I have been carefully removing from my beater SAK's to make them look like new.
Maybe we should just send each other a package of knives that are in the "pre-worked-on" state

Nice work. :hatsoff: Looks really good assembled.

As for the anodizing, are you thinking clear or color anodizing? I like the looks of this silver one and wouldn't add any color to it for your first go.

Thanks.  A bit of fettling and filing tonight and I was able to get it together quite easily.  I've re-fitted the outer liners under the scales too and I'll see if I can cut the grooves in the scales for the toothpick and tweezers at work tomorrow.

I quite like the silver, but black is better.  I like black. 8)
