SOG Key Knife.
on: October 05, 2014, 02:49:22 PM
Having EDC a Swiss+Tech Utilikey, I was curious when I spied the SOG Key Knife hanging at a local Walmart. This is one neat little blade that features a lock back mechanism.

I guess hidden in a pile of keys, this little blade might go unnoticed. See they fake key teeth, well that gives you a nice steady and sure grip when the blade is opened. It is even subtly sculptured to slightly cradle your fingers.

A nice little knife that hid on your key chain.  :tu:

This one made me chuckle, I've never seen a lock-back like that. Not a fan of the design as such, but absolutely points given for novelty. :)

I have one of those that I carry on my keys. It works well but if you need to push hard on something you're cutting the fake teeth dig into your hand. I really like it though.

I have seen the pictures of this knife, but never pulse to pay attention.  Thanks for the writeup, and am a little surprised to find its a lockback. :tu:

The fact that the number 1 MT collector in the world EDC a utilikey on his keychain, speak for itself.
Swisstech should send you a check.

I am certain I am not the #1 mt collector in the world. If that were the case, I would possibly be treated better by Leatherman rather then get the brush off by their service department a few months back when I phoned them regarding some issues I had.

I have one of these buried in between regular keys on each of my keychains. I've gone through several security checkpoints where it's necessary to go through a scanner. When emptying my pockets into the tray, I just recite off each item as I toss it into the fray as he's watching me. Saying - keys, wallet, pen, phone, etc. I've not once had security give what I've put into the tray a second glance when I do it this way since he feels he's already "cleared" it watching me put it into the tray. And my keys are first, rest of the stuff on top the keyring. :)

I know it's not a real great knife, but they do come in handy for the small tasks like cutting a thread, mail opening, etc., and they'll get quite sharp. Just bugs me that with so much seriously wrong happening nowadays, they worry about some guy with a pocketknife. But it is what it is I suppose.

I wouldn't try this at the airport though I don't think. Worst case here is I'd just gave to go back out and put it in my vehicle.

So far I like it a lot.
Big enough to do small task and small enough to sit along keys. Quick and easy to access, better than pull put a folder or MT in places.
I know 420J suppose to be crap steel for blade, but easy to sharpen and can get pretty sharp.

Some of the security checkpoints I been through really just a joke.
Went to county fair last month, wasn't expect to see a security checkpoint.
I stick the Espada all the way in my pocket and placed my flashlight over it.
Alarm went off as I walked through the metal detector, the guy look at my flashlight and let me through.

Am I the only one wondering what the issues were?
