why I was away
on: May 16, 2015, 12:17:12 AM
It all started with sore ankles, they they became swollen, then they turned dark red.
at this point I was first diagnosed with adema, and put on a water pill.
next day they were way worse, so I went back and they said it as cellulitus, gave me some antibiotics, and informed me that I was diabetic.   ::)
at this point my ankle pain was joined by knees, wrists, elbows, and forearm swelling.
got super painful and went to the ER, they did an IV antibiotic, and a pain medicine.
they told me to go home and come back in 2 days.  I did NOTHING except stay off my feet as directed and slept, A LOT.

went back and they said I needed to be hospitalized.
at first, they still thought it was cellulitus (They diagnosed me as being diabetic, so that fit) and they tried antibiotic after antibiotic, with no results.

Finally they called in a rheumatologists, who quickly realized the other doctors were on the wrong track, and cancelled all the antibiotics, and put me on just mortin.  with-in a few hours, I was starting to feel better.

it was a very rare issue called Loeffler's Syndrome

I am starting to feel better now, though my ankles are still swollen and tight, but I am on the path to recovery.

side note, in 48 hours, I gave 39 vials of blood.   ::)

the bright side, is this rare syndrome,  runs it's course and never bothers you again.  sort of like chicken pox (without the shingle possibility)

Loeffler's is usually a pulmonary disease.  How is that related to the peripheral edema?  Are they saying True, true unrelated?

(ie diabetes AND Loeffler's syndrome?)

Glad you're on the mend though!  :tu:

agree 100% they did a chest x-ray and a chest CT scan.

the rheumatologists saw all of my extremities, and immediately requested the chest x-ray and CT.  she had a case 15 years ago that matched the symptoms and was Loeffler's, so that was her first check.  the x-ray and CT confirmed her thoughts, and I am finally mending,  the constant anti-biotics had me feeling like crap.

When my ankles were swollen last january we found out it was due to me packing on 30 lbs of fluids and having congestive heart failure.

I wish you all the very best in your recovery buddy. It's great to have you back

Holy crap buddy, I wish I'd known.  Not that I could have done much about it but I saw you doing less on FB as well so I'd just assumed you were busy with real life things- I wouldn't have guessed it was THAT real though!

I'm glad you are getting better and (hopefully) no permanent damage.  We are all here for you buddy.
