A message to the hackers trying to break in
on: September 24, 2015, 03:23:25 PM
We've had some hackers trying to break into the site lately- unsuccessfully I am proud to say.  Everyone's info is still nice and safe, so nothing to worry about.

If any of those hackers are reading this, I'd like to suggest that you move on to another site- you didn't beat the measures we had in place before, and we have since tripled the levels of site protection we have in place.

Long live MTO!

Long Live MTO!

I guess you could say the site has an array of tools for use.

It's like a multitool

Ha, punny.

I need sleep.....

We don't. If that's a hacker, he/she must be really good at imitating Def's handwritting

I first got suspicious of "Grant" when he failed to accept the brilliance of a card multitool he posted about....

I have my doubts about this break-in detection. I was blocked from logging into the site a bunch of times when I first joined and got a message saying I was banned etc. when I tried browsing the site before logging in. The cure is often worse than the problem with most of this web junk. In the immortal words of Yogi Berra RIP, I'll believe it when I believe it.

It's probably best the hackers not piss off the well equipped members of this forum...

more like script-kiddies than real hackers,  but still crackers (here is the reason I say Cracker not hacker) can be a problem no matter what flavor.

Good job to all the admin, mods and personnel helping to keep this place safe and open for everyone.

And to anyone attempting to sabotage this place, what purpose does it serve other than pitiful self satisfaction?   It is not like you have just hacked into pentagonia or Macrosoft and can show it off to the rest of the world.

Btw, if this forum is ever ruined, I trust that we will just build one up again, because what kept us together are not merely server and firewall.

Bingo.

Script kiddies aren't crackers. They are like the snot nosed punks who can't figure out how to use a can of spray paint, so their vandalism involves stickers. Pathetic, limp BLEEP, slack jawed halfwits with their hands in their pants and still can't figure it out.

And they are listening, they know where I am. I've got a few old school physical layer hacks to show them.

Based on the logs they were trying to brute force the default admin login on the main site... sadly for them, the account is not the default name, so they can keep trying that all they want... Also there's now a blocker in place for failed logins.

Our hosting company looks after us quite well, so even if they did manage to get in, and cause havok, we wouldn't lose much and would have minimal downtime to restore and fix.

that is such an important change, and I know many places that do not make that change.
