Preference is for tip-up and most knives I own and carry are set up to run that way. I do have the Spyderco Military that is tip-down and it works for that knife as it is on the longer side.

I have a preference for tip up, purely because that's what I'm more familiar with, but I do own and use tip down too. Sometimes I get greedy and carry a Wings slipit and have both  :D

I prefer tip-up carry. Have two knives that the only option is tip down and don't carry either much  anymore.

Mostly tip up, because their clip come that way.  But regardless it's tip up or down, the spine is always against the pocket if using the clip.

Either/or if I'm wearing jeans, if I'm wearing dress pants or khakis with a more vertical pocket opening, tip up.

Flippers I like tip down
Short knives with holes or studs are tip up
Long ones like the military or resilience are tip down for me

If I can't get an immediate grip on the opening system tip up then it's too long and tip down works better.

I trained tip up because it is more natural for my support hand draw. After having 2 different knives work themselves open while pocketed, I've switched to tip down. Just personal preference. N

Two thumbs down. And it is a reason I am no longer interested in Benchmade since they have basically gotten away from tip-down carry.

+1

Also tip down is the way to go if the knife is carry in anywhere other than pants pocket.
