Vic definitely don't need to replace the classic SAK line. But offer an alternate line of these updated "Boker-beaterz" for the tacti-cool/mall-ninja crowd.

Yep, thats exactly what I want! I never meant to suggest that Vic get rid of the cellidor line.

Quick! How do I get elected king of Switzerland?
There is no direct way, but you could try something like this:

- Join the Catholic church
- Become Pope
- Use Papal Guard to invade Switzerland
- Proclaim yourself King
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

There is another…

Emerson EDC-2, 440C steel, G10 handles, and with take-down screws.

Also offering less utility than a Tinker, while costing six times as much.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emerson-Knives-Multitasker-EDC-2-Multitool-PlainEdge-OD-Green-G10-Dealer/351371820329?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D65b3dcbb51a6484cb6cea1512447f376%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D201336567946
Yeah, some minor advantages like all locking tools IIRC.
But it is also 150g (like 3x the weight of the Tinker).
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

In my opinion they are extremely over priced especially since it has 440 for the blade steel. It should have S35VN for the price. I hate the re-curve as well. I still really want one, but will never buy one.

Recurve in a blade is a dealbreaker for me. It is something has saved a lot of money for me.   :)

(I have many pet peeves with knives. I have more knives than I need, so of course I am picky if I consider buying more.)

Same for me. I do not do recurve or tanto.

Double ditto on the tanto. Never had a need to poke a hole in bamboo-and leather-armor, and can't think of anything else they're good for.

Hmmm, that doesn't work for me. Plan B: 1. Get elected POTUS. 2. Deliver some freedom to Switzerland (the 'Murican kind). 3. Declare the former Switzerland the 51st state and rename it Barry Switzer Land. 4. Institute my changes at Victorinox :tu: Easy

Jk, of course

What are the negatives/positives with re-curved blades? I see a fair amount of dislike towards them. Also, what is the deal with Tantos? Supposed to be better for piercing. How so? Stronger tip. Compared to what? Wouldn't a sheepsfoot be just as strong?

Someone please enlighten me? I am genuinely interested, especially since I recently acquired a Tanto M16.

All this recurve hate :ahhh I'm going to need a safe space now :D

I have a couple, one of which is the Benchmade 710. While I don't carry it often, since it would more than likely get me into trouble in NYC ::), it is a great slicer and allows you to use the blade in unique ways. Maximum potential IMO can be brought out by how it's sharpened. The first curve on mine, closest to the pivot, is sharpened at around 17 degrees per side with a toothier finish, which then transitions into a much thinner edge, around 12 degrees per side and a smooth polished finish. It's a savage blade, just wish I had heavier cutting chores to use it for.

The tanto is a very strong chisel point developed for poking holes in armor. Works great for that but not much else. A lot of combat-style knives have a tanto point because it looks mean/neat/cool.

A sheepsfoot doesn't really have a point. Its intended for carving wood, cutting patterns out of thin material such as leather, and making clean cuts in rope for splicing.

I do not really care, but some people do not like the recurves because they are not that easy to sharpen properly.

Recurve is yet another thing that makes the blade better for some things, worse for others. I don't want a recurve mainly because I don't like the way they behave with wood and can't be sharpened on a flat stone. I am sure other people have other reasons.

Oh, and btw, the actual tanto knife does not have a “tanto blade”. The westernized tanto is a smurfization where put the geometry inspired by a sword on a knife. A traditional tanto is a very basic and good design.

The tanto is a knife but yes, the tanto (and its larger relatives) has a curved blade made for cutting and a much rounder-tip...

I know a tanto is a knife, trying to keep the westernized tanto as a blade geometry separate from the traditional tanto as a knife just proved not that easy. :)

It seems like the recurve would help you stay in the material you are cutting, like for longer or sustained cuts, more so than a flat edge. I can see it being more difficult to sharpen, though

I have no problems with a curved blade on my lansky turnbox. I do understand that it will be dificult to sharpen on a convential stone.

I have to say, I just figured out a big deal breaker with the thicker Boker. On the thicker versions, the clip being on the narrow side means it will stand up tall-ways away from your leg (if in a pants pocket). That bad boy would be ridiculous in-pocket.

You see what I mean?

That works. The 1-3 layer versions seem fine. But not so much when the tool is three stories tall
