Thoughts on pocket carrying the swisschamp?
on: January 15, 2016, 08:30:46 AM
I pocket carry my swisschamp and personally think that it is a great size for it because of its width. If it was narrower, it would roll around but its width helps keep it still along with the belt clip w chain that i use for it. the last thing i need is another belt sheath for what works perfectly as a pocket carry for me. I carry my phone, keys, and Charge TTI on my belt. In my other pocket is clipped the benchmade socp dagger. What are yalls thoughts on pocket carrying the champ? If you dont pocket carry it, how do you. Are there others out there who carry it like I do?

I also pocket carry my swisschamp. It is my essential EDC. I was pocket carrying champion few months ago, and i don't see any difference. Lot of people think that it is bulky, but i don't have that feeling. I was thinking to get belt pouch, but only for outdoor activities (fishing and camping).

I have tried pocket carrying the SwissChamp but found it slightly too much weight in the pocket; with the width also slightly too much to sit comfortably. It forms part of a travel pack at times. Belt carry and similar not an option as they are seen as weapons *groan*.

Far too much thought and trialing has left me with a preferred weight of around 130 grams (~4.6 ounces). This approximately means two layer in 130mm; three layer in 111mm; five layer in 85mm or 91mm and forget it in anything smaller.

Most people here seem to pocket carry lighter and smaller than I do...

I used to carry mine for a couple of years this way. It might be flattering misinterpreted as a relaxed manhood but disappointing the other way around. Other than that it was comfortable and handy, the way it stood erected and reachable all the time.

The fact is that I had discoloration and wear on my right jean pocket, much worse than the one I have now by my Opinel at the same place. Also, I had to clean it from fluff periodically.

When I started to carry a bag almost everywhere (a Victorinox I have told you about many times) I stopped carrying it this way.

Welcome to the forum.  :salute:

I pocket carried the SC for a few years as a stand-alone. No pouch or lanyard or dangler, just threw it in my pocket. I always felt comfortable and prepared with it.  :tu:

I love the Belt Hanger! Looks classy and works great!

I bought one last year and did not think I would use it or really like it but wanted to give it a try.  I fell in love with it! My voyager lite and champion Plus hang vertical in my pocket. I don't even notice them in my pocket until they are called into action.

One of the most under utilized and uncommon Victorinox accessories that should be in higher standing!!

Just my 2 cents...

For as wide as it seems, its relatively narrow.  I was wondering how it would carry in my back pocket opposite my wallet.  For as much as it packs, it doesn't really weigh that much.  My son has one that he carries in a belt pouch.  Gotta get one of my own!

I personally prefer it much better in the front pocket. It is just easier for me to get my hands on. Im sure that if you used a belt hanger it would be just fine in the back pocket. I wouldn't try it in the back without the hanger though in my opinion. Who knows though. Maybe that will work better for you. Everyone has their own preferences. I would recomrnd getting the knife. Then, if it moves around in the pocket too much for you, get the belt hanger with the chain. It is 15 bucks on amazon right now (the hanger, not the swisschamp😪) hope this helps! Oh and also, be careful when ordering the swisschamp off of amazon. I bought one and when it came in it was a terrible counterfiet. I was very disapointed. I sent it back and ordered the same knife for a few bucks more and it was real this time. Just be sure you can return it if you get a counterfeit.

I have carried both the Swiss Champ and the SC XLT in front pockets for ages. Nobody noticed as far as I can tell. The only problem with pocket carry is the lint and junk which find it's way into the SAK. Monthly cleaning was in order. Also in the pocket, sweat is inevitable and introduces water into the unit. So oil it regularly.

I was going to carry the Vic Evo Grip S54 in the front pocket, but decided this time to switch it out for a belt pouch to avoid the mess which gets into the SAK. it rides next to my Swiss Tool and fits between the belt loops well. Nobody thinks about asking about it, even though it is in a red "23" pouch.

As far as considering this some kind of "weapon"? If you have ever had any kind of training in military arms you know a folder is not a weapon. Look in the "Sneaky Pete" on the other side for that!

I don't like the look or the practicalities of belt carry in most circumstances, so I tend to pocket carry everything.

On the specific topic of pocket carrying a Swisschamp, I'd say don't do it - carry a CT41 instead  :D

Another pocket carrying SC owner.  I find the size and weight comfortable.  I've seen guys lugging around bigger, wider, fatter wallets.  I've plopped it into my back pocket from time to time with no issues either.

The Vic belt hanger is an awesome addition to my daily carry.  I use mine for my keys.  I also have one for my off day minimal carry items.  On it are a my Thrunite Titanium light and a minichamp.

I have carried my Swisschamp just dropped in pocket as well as on the belt hanger. Since I have a crap cell phone I can carry the Swisschamp vertical next to it and both combined are wide enough to keep either from falling horizontally. I can even slip my space pen vertically in there as well. I also like the dangler as it takes all the weight off my pocket and I do not even feel the weight on my belt.

I tried both.

And I highly prefer the belt carry option over the pocket carry option in every way and view. The reason is simple - this is a big, heavy tool. It is rather thick. And I hate such weight in my pocket. I carry all type of stuff in there; from coins to keys and any other thing. But I say that a 2-3-layer SAK as my limit of pocket carry. No 4-or-more-layer tools in my pocket. They go straight onto my belt. I don´t even like to carry my cell-phone in my pocket.
Maybe it is anatomic due to my rather thick/musculus legs, but things of such width and weight and broadness just disturb me while I´m walking or sitting.

Not my beer at all. I highly prefer them on my belt. Or in my vest at work or in my jacket. But the pantpockets are out of the race there.
There are a lot of nice belt carry options for SAKs. Those Victorinox leather-velcro-thingies are rather durable but they are very voluminous.

IIRC, I threw the SC in my pocket, some years ago. I went down to the car and wanted to drive to work. I sat down into the car. I decided to get out of my car. Put the SC in my daypack and threw the Vic Executive in my pocket (the Exec was my backup in those days). A big no-no. I´ve also tried the belt hangers. The problem is the same.

Belt carry of the SC for me, finally.

I carry mine in my right hand front pocket using a P-7 clip so it is tucked right by the pants leg seam and it works fine for me.  Hardly notice it is there and I can still use the pocket for other items if need be.  I don't carry alot of junks though so I have plenty of space to spare.

I dont like the idea of just throwing it in a pocket as then I would think it is too heavy and bulky to ride well.  I also don't like the idea of belt carry then everyone knows you have something on you!

While not quite a swisschamp, my CT34 and PowerLock are both most comfortably carried in my jacket pocket. I dont do belt carry often, so for the bigger tools, that is what works for me. I do occasionally pocket carry an MP600, but that is my limit I think.

I carry a 24 ounce gun in my pocket all day everyday.  Once your brain adapts, you forget the gun is there.

So while I have never carried a Swisschamp, it would certainly be doable at 6 ounces or whatever.  You just have to power through the first few days, and then your brain finds something else to worry about.

Used to pocket carry a Swisschamp. Rides great along with the wallet on the right front pocket. Went a bit smaller with the Evolution 28 and Handyman. I find the Swisschamp lighter than a CT41.

I carry a Champion Plus just like this, except that women's pockets are generally much shallower than men's pockets so I end up reversing the P7 and clipping it to my coin pocket so it has the necessary height to keep the knife vertical. And there is plenty of room in the pocket - I've thrown chapstick, coins, and even a mini composition book in there without any problems.

Another one wit no problem carrying SC in my pockets. It sits nice and put. What i have noticed, if i have trousers with deep pockets like suit trousers have, it starts to feel little uncomfortable. But a bit shallower pockets it rides well.

I have no problem of carrying it on belt sheat either, but then those things sometimes feel little uncomfortable when riding a car or sitting on a couch.

Now, that's something substantial.
You made me thinking about carrying my Swisschamp XLT again. I stayed with Spirit and scissored alox for about a year. I used the pliers almost a dozen times, the scissors almost daily. I don't see the point carrying both since most tools are doubled. But if I put the XLT in the Skinth I'll have to remove other tools.

Same for me, I bought one of them when I ordered a knife online and needed to spice up the total amount a bit to get free delivery, and since then I bought a second one and use them every day.  These small things are just awesome, they keep the knife upright in the pocket, and safely secured to the belt  :D.

My Swisschamp is the one tool that never gets out of my EDC setup, the plier based tools change from time to time, the Swisschamp stays  ;).

Nah, not that dedicated to more than two to three layers in the old pockets these days. But my Craftsman lives in my work bag and sees almost daily use. It's like a SwissChamp, but with tools I actually use:)
