Leatherman Photon
on: April 13, 2016, 10:08:43 PM
Playing about with some spares

Looks like a normal Wave, right?

Not quite.  Look a bit closer...

Vic scissors.

But that's not all.

It's a light Wave.  A Photon.

I removed one outer fold and long tool on each side and replaced them with carbon fibre sheet.

Kind of a hybrid Wave/skinny Charge.

Modified tool load out too - flat drivers and small bit driver from a Blast, along with a large bit driver and can opener.

Thanks all

Gotta scale?

A spare? No - I only cut two. Was fairly easy to do though, the CF is only 1.5mm thick.

My bad, I meant like weight scale, to see how heavy it is

Looks great with those carbon fiber scales!

I find it strange the prototype PST actually had Victorinox scissors on it.  You know, you'd think Leatherman would have had contracted the scissors out to Victorinox.  Victorinox scissors are far above the rest.

Great idea, and slammin' execution!

Reminds me in a way of the Signal, a single-side Wave-type frame. The Signal is awful specialized, but I hope Leather takes that new chassis and comes up with some more general-purpose EDC multitools from it. They can use your layout (blade, scissors, inside tools) for a start!

Oh hey, one question: are those the "large" scissors from a 91mm Vic, or the "REALLY larger" ones from an eleventy-one?

Thanks!  I might swap the scissors for a file and put some Wave scissors in place of the can opener yet, as the whole tool needs to be finished properly and tidies up a little.

The scissors I used are from a 91mm - but they're exactly the same as the ones on the 111mm knives.

Really? Huh, lemme check... Ayup, your'e right, they're the same. Somehow the ones on my Workchamp seemed bigger at first glance. Of course, the scissors I use the most are on a 57mm Executive, so I guess my perception is off.

I scored a pair of Wingman scissors for a FrankenCharge mod, but I'm thinking Vic scissors would be a better upgrade…

I still haven't got round to tidying this one up yet - must get it into some sort of order before the meet next month.

Thanks Poncho. Not changed anything on this one yet - I got my TTi at about the same time and that gets used more often so didn't bother.

Looks great, Is that a finer weave CF? I saw a similar CF mod with a larger pattern and it didn't look right. Well done!

Thanks Josh. :salute: It's fairly fine weave, but I'm not sure of the spec - I just bought what I could get in the right thickness.

Nice! The current scissors on the Wave suck. This is a definite improvement
