Which carry type do you like?
on: September 20, 2008, 11:13:59 PM
I realized today I have several forms of kydex-belt/loop connections;

regular loop;

extended loop;

Tek-Lok

they all are interchangeable to all my kydex sheaths and the Tek-Lok
has multi-position use, and the regular loop can also be used for
horizontal carry.

which do you prefer, use?

What a coincidence. Last night I made a little extender from Kydex for my Raine cellphone case. I'm finding that I prefer it hangs about 2"-2.5" down from my belt instead of actual belt-height. This way it's in the open and doesn't get caught up with a shirt. Camping this summer I was wearing my SRK drop leg.

I like horizontal carry.  Usually, I carry my fixed blade outdoor knives "scout style" across my back.  It keeps out of the way of things when I am stalking on the ground or shooting prone when I go hunting.

Check out www.onscenetactical.com for cool kydex stuff.  Most of the guys doing kydex work learned to do it from Eric.  Most of the others are liars...   :ahhh

I've emailed him numerous times.. His prices aren't bad, but in order to make it you have to send him your knife/tool if he doesn't have one to mold.

Wouldn't you have to do that with kydex maker that doesn't have the tool or knife there?

No, the kydex holster maker should buy every knife in the world so you don't have to send yours in for molding.  :D

Eric must be really cack then as he has nowhere near every tool and knife in the world.  :D

LM123, that's just how it works I'm afraid.  Kydex is moulded around the tool and has a precise fit.  I can't see how you are expecting a kydex maker to achieve this without having the tool/knife sent in.  Eric lists loads of sheaths, but you can't expect him to have moulds etc for everything there is.

it is true, to have the best fit they need to have the actual model to make it so.
but...with so many makers you would think one of them has a Charge! I'll find out today from my friend.

it's one reason why I prefer a nylon pouch style for MTs, you can fit most of them in it and a few extra
things, but a customized kydex sheath would be nice for your favorites.

I understand that it is molded for a tight fit! I am saying that it's a hassle to have to send the tool and such. And I was wondering if a kydex sheath maker would have a Charge to do a mold. Eventually, if I can't find anyone- then I will send a bunch of tools to be molded.
