I decided to leave my smart watch at home today as this watch was begging for some wrist time- the Luminox Blackout.

It was a gift from a good friend and forum member who is no longer with us, and so I'm proud to show it off today, even before the sun came up!

Wearing my GA-101 Dark Knight today.

Because why the heck wouldn't you?   :D

I love this watch but I kinda hate the negative display.  Don't tell Megan as it was a gift.

I am also in that category.  I'll bust out one of the nice watches for an event, or occasionally because I feel like it, but I almost always just put on my Galaxy S3 Frontier.

Given how much I like having a smart watch I should probably invest in a nicer/newer one, but this one is a bit special too- my mother ordered this one about a month before she passed, and so on top of being useful, I have an additional attachment to it.

I had another, slightly older S3 as well, but a coworker broke his smart watch so I gave him mine, and I started wearing my Mom's.

Not many people inherit brand new smart tech from their 80 year old parents!   :D

I have one watch with a negative display- my G Shock GA-100 and I'll never get another.  The readout is almost impossible to read during the day and I do very few night operations these days.  IMHO the negative display looks cool (when you can see it) but is ultimately quite useless.

Def

I'm at the other end of the spectrum it appears.  I have my lovely old Timex Triathlon and a great Garmin Instinct 2 Solar (mostly a smart watch, but not Galaxy/I level) but I really tend much, much more to my classic watches.

I'm guessing that has a lot to do with my vision, which is not great, so I can't read the notifications on the Garmin and my phone vibrates anyway, so it seems rather redundant.  It's also the collector gene that virtually everyone here has as well.

But I'd much prefer to wear a classic watch than anything "smart".  I own 16 watches, only two are digital.  My phone does all the other crap.

This one rarely gets worn; today was the first time it saw the light of day in about six months. Here it's measuring run time of an emergency radio.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

In case you're wondering, the emergency radio ran for about 27 minutes with one minute of cranking. Two minutes of cranking gave a run time of about an hour and five minutes. And when I listened to NOAA weather radio, the observation post nearest me recorded 69 degrees Fahrenheit (20.5 Celsius) at 1200. At that time, Sault Ste. Marie, MI recorded 52/11.1, while Marquette, MI recorded a balmy 48/8.9.

Casio watches have almost disappeared from Walmart. Might have been 15 total today.  No pix taken. A woman was sorting through watches on the shelves blocking things. Best wishes. G

Some of the Timex models look really good with a band change. I rock an Easy Reader with a one piece RAF strap.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Another Walmart Casio report.  Boring, right?  Can't be exciting all the time.  VERY few Armitron watches.  I noticed the prices of most of the Casios are up about 30% or so.  I counted 22 Casios today.  There is some overlap in the photos, so I was careful not to count twice.  I think.  I didn't see any Timex, but they could have been in a different place.  Best wishes.  G

Some of you may recall some of my past creative efforts.  My homemade SwissChamp, do-it-yourself Opinel, plier based keychain multitool, or my backyard grown Hobo Knife consisting of a large stainless steel ladle with added functions.  I may have outdone myself this time.  In a flash of insight I have created.... the world's first Casio pocket watch.
Like the apple that fell on Newton's pate, it came to me in a flash.  Actually it came when one band finally pooped out.  I figured it would finally fail at the buckle, but instead it gave up at the end that is pinned to the watch.  I noticed it hanging by a thread, or whatever a thin piece of plastic is called.  I gave an exploratory tug, and voila.  My Casio pocket watch was half finished already.  I took off the other protuberance, and I was finished.  The only other work was cleaning out several decades of accumulated dirt that was being hidden under the band.
I wish there was a larger selection of Casio watches at my neighborhood W-Mart.  Maybe I will have to see what is left on the shelves.  My pocket watch will suffice until I figure out some better solution.  Best wishes.  G
