Meeting the Man Himself, Tim Leatherman!
on: November 20, 2016, 12:37:09 AM
OK, I am kinda feeling awesome right now :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Today was awesome as some of you may have saw in the Events Forum that Tim Leatherman was going to be at the Smoky Mountain Knife Works (SMKW) today :o I got there and he had already been there for an hour  I have several pics of the event and would like to share with all of you what went on :D I first came through the doors to the side of the building (the doors I always go though as it is where all the MTs and SAKs are  )  There he was :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

He was there telliing the story of how he came up with the idea of the LM MT and had a few pics of the early prototypes :dd: I also took a shot of the this poster sitting there :tu:

20161119_110724 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

He was a very nice man to talk to and he was very nice about signing MTs for people

20161119_110706 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

He started by signing a few MTs I had brought  and my little girl brought her Micra and he signed that as well then I asked if she could have a picture with him and he was very nice about it :dd: :like:

I talked MTs with him as there wasn't really a line (SMKW really didn't advertise him being there much at all :o :D ) I had all the tools I wanted to have signed (well as many as I thought he might sign without looking at me like ??? ) :D Then I showed him my clipped Rebar 2.0, the one with the Kick clip, diamond file and scissors for those not in the know about it  I told him that the only thing lost was the lanyard ring and he was actually kind of amazed at it and he even asked if he could take a pic of it :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Hoping he takes this back to Headquarters and we see a couple things out of that in the next while :like: Finally I got a pic with him :tu: He said we need to have our MTs out for this pic and I was happy to oblige him  He had a Charge Tti with him

20161119_111924 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

After that I went and got my dad and my little girl both a Squirt PS4 his for Christmas as she begged for one because I was getting dad one :D Then he even signed those :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :like:

Needless to say I am very well pleased with the day and how it all turned out :2tu:

The tools I had signed for myself :dd: The Skeletool is the only one of those I carry but they all were very carefully picked for what they were :tu:

The oldest PST I have and Tim even said that it was old enough that he probably even worked on that one himself :o :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

My Skeletool that I won here in a Review contest :like: It was an early one and I got it from here the year they came out so it has the PE blade :tu: and yes I will still use it as it was always special because I won it here and this just adds to it's history ;)

I'm glad to see that you dressed appropriately!

It's amazing how down to Earth he is.  He is a really great person to talk to and I find he and his wife are both delightful.

You don't get the feeling he's putting on an act or that the marketing people are coaching him to act a certain way- he's just a really personable guy.

I'm glad you had a chance to actually spend some time talking to him- they say don't meet your hero's,  but he was so much better than I thought he would be!

He really seemed like a really genuine nice person :salute: I made sure that shirt was going with me and had it laid out to wear for about a week ;) My wife even commented on how nice and genuine he was as well :tu: His wife was there as well but I was so involved with talking to him that I had no idea of anyone else around us  My wife was actually the one that said I think that was his wife talking to him a few minutes ago and then when she saw a picture of her in the LM catalog in the first page she said "Yep that was her" :D He really was one of those people that lived up and surpassed my expectations :like:

I went in prepared  She really handles talking to people better than I do  She throws that "hey I know I am cute" around and just knows how to work that  :D My dad just said the other day "Do they make small little pliers because some of the other tools I have are to heavy for me to carry"  Bingo I have a good start on a Christmas present now

Yes it was a wonderful day :salute: :tu:

I will try and plan on it! I'm glad someone was there representing MTO! Do you think he recognized your shirt? I'm also glad he saw your mod. Maybe that will get some ideas churning, and when he comes out with a diamond file rebar with scissors, well, we know where that came from!

Nice report.
You do realise that you can now sell the signed ones for a lot of money, instead of just giving them away ... :pok:   :D

He really didn't seem to mind signing more than a few tool :D I had a couple signed then somebody else came up and I let them go and then asked if he didn't care to sign a couple more and he said "Sure"  :tu: I did make sure to get the ones I wanted signed for sure first then in case there was a limit I would have those signed anyways :D I also had my little girls signed (well she did) in between some of my tools as well ;) She wasn't as thrilled about it until we got there then she was excited about getting her Micra signed and then even more so when she thought she might get another one :D
