Does anyone know anything about the original coloured Skeletool releases. Was it just 5 colours?

I can add a bit of info from the ones I have that I believe are the original LM issued coloured Skeletools.  Like you, I haven't seen any other original colours.

These first 3 are in the original LM plastic on cardboard packaging and therefore I'm pretty sure they are an official LM release, rather than an aftermarket mod (eg TTC), but that doesn't mean the handles weren't coloured for LM by an outside supplier.  From what I've seen in photos on ebay the coloured coating is easily chipped.
(NB the # Id is just my internal identifier for my spreadsheet):

#16L:    Sticker: "831374 Skeletool Lava Red   For USA sale only".  Package marked "Exclusively at REI". This is a fairly dark red.

#1065:  Sticker: "831478 Skeletool Ocean Blue  Made in USA".  Package marked "Limited Edition Colour". This is a fairly dark blue.

#14K:    Sticker: "831479 Skeletool Flame Orange  Made in USA".  Package marked "Limited Edition Colour".

The others came loose, so no packaging and no model No. info

I do have two different Dark Green variants, #875 has "1961   Cabela's    2011, 50th ANNIVERSARY" etched on the blade and emboidered on the nylon sheath, the blade on the other one (#787) is not marked.

Looking closely at the recently released "new" Skeletool colours I have (#1261 "Sublime" - Light green, and #1262 "Denim" - Dark Grey/Blue) I would venture the opinion they have not been coloured by the same process used by TTC as the coloured finish is quite different to the "ceramic" coating on the Skeletools I have purchased direct from TTC.  It looks very similar to the finish on the originals I have.

Ah'. Cheers Greg
Although it wasn't what I wanted to hear. I was really hoping that the original 5 were Genuine LM and not simply a batch that had been outsourced.
I deliberately stayed away from the new coloured releases as it just opens up a whole new collection avenue that I was determined to avoid. Once you begin aquiring TTC versions you're then drawn into the myriad of finishes they offer and worse what they offer to other LM models too. Hence it just moves the boundaries of collecting into a whole new area and one that I had/have no intention of getting into.

Along with the 5 colours I also have both CX version (SE & PE) and both SS versions (SE & PE)
Fully intended to buy the SX variant.
The RX?? ....that really is the most appalling rip off LM has ever sunk too. Here in the UK £106!!
Sorry but I flatly refuse to buy.

Because I cannot be certain to get all 3 latest colours, and quite honestly don't want to spend the entire year searching either. Furthermore no doubt TTC will release another colour batch sometime in the future too.

I'll stop with the arrival of the SX!
(Once I've got round to ordering)

Now you've confused me - I said I believed the original 5 coloured Skeles WERE genuine LM issue   ???

I don't know whether the actual colouring of the frames was done in-house or out-sourced, but either way in my eyes they are 100% genuine, un-modified LMs (unlike the Skeles coloured and marketed by TTC which I regard as after-market mods).

Sorry Greg
Got my wires crossed
I'm sure I read someplace that the new coloured releases were infact outsourced to TTC.

If not, it means there's an additional 3 I need too!
