Bah Humbug
on: December 02, 2016, 03:33:51 PM
I've just started putting my Christmas decorations up in my office and already had a bah humbug visitor from the office next to mine.  The miserable toad got told to take his bah humbug and shove it up... well you get the idea

The 3 of us at the end of the corridor are all decorating our offices and we have asked our bosses boss if we can do the corridor as well, and he said yes. We did it more to bug Mr Bah Humbug than anything else, so it's a visit to the pound shop this weekend so we can really go to town on it  :D

I think I'll treat my office to some new ones as well as mine are starting to look tired

I have no problem with other people enjoying Christmas. I can get a little annoyed with having Christmas imposed on me though.

Why do people who do Christmas get so frustrated by people who don't, and why do they assume we are "miserable" for not doing it? We're only miserable because folks keep trying to goad us into stuff we don't want to do :P

I assume he's miserabe because he came into my office just to moan about Christmas and my decorations that were only in my office. If he hadn't I would be more than happy to leave him to his non-Christmas, but he went out of his way to moan at me about it,  so now it's game on full on annoy the smurf out of him with my happy happy Christmas attitude  :D

I save my disdain for commercial interests trying drum up interest to sell all sorts of crap that is associated with "traditions" that have nothing to do with my country (Australia).  Examples are Halloween, Thanksgiving and Valentine's day.  If it wasn't for retailers trying to make a buck we would have heard very little about these, but at certain times of the year their junk is really in your face at almost every place that sells stuff.

A new one for me recently was Black Friday. Never heard of it. Checked the calendar, no it's not Friday the 13th, not that that would be a good excuse for a sale (I wouldn't put it past them though).

When I am King I will ban all mention of Christmas that is more than a week before the actual day.

Bah, humbug!

Last day at work before Xmas break and 17 days off, and my boss won't let me leave 2 hours early because he can't go early due to having to go to a meeting

As soon as he's gone to the meeting, I am out of here.

Last full day for me and I had to take tomarrow off because my time is maxed out. I kinda love and hate these forced closures. I take a little hit in pay, but 10 days off from work sure is nice. Makes it very hard to go back.

Following on from my earlier comments.....

1) Went for the annual Christmas meal with the boatyard crowd a couple of weeks ago, and it was wonderful to see friends I haven't seen for a year and have (several) drinks with. Loved it, not for the fact it was Christmas, but for the opportunity to rekindle old friendships.

2) Mother was pestering me to join them for Christmas dinner. I said I would love to join them for a meal, but if they wanted to be "Christmassy" to count me out. It was agreed that I'd catch up with them for a meal another time after the day, so I didn't dampen their celebrations.

3) Had same conversation with a couple of others, and it's not dissuaded them, so I'll be going to one of my brother's house on Christmas Eve, and a friend's house on Boxing Day (26th for those who don't have Boxing Day)

4) Got a phone call at 10pm last night from a friend I know through work, to tell me a guy I used to work for died yesterday lunchtime of a massive heart attack. Aged 47, leaving wife and three young kids. Went to visit the guy who phoned me today, caught up on old times, and then we went to the pub and raised a few glasses to the friend we just lost. Another old friendship rekindled, even though through very sad circumstances.

5) Still not figured out how to meet up with my other brother and wish him well, and get a pressie to my oldest niece without encountering the bitch-in-law who turns my blood to venom.

6) Also still actively avoiding much of the BS meaningless ogligations that come round this time of year.

7) Was gifted a bottle of whisky today by an old colleague that I haven't seen for a long time, who was grateful for some moral support I offered on a recent issue, which I've already made a start on  ;)

Aside from current health and life issues, lots of mixed emotions being felt right now. A profound disdain for the over commerSmurfpillsed season, rebellion against meaningless obligation, glee at rekindling old friendships, grief over the sudden loss of someone I worked very closely with, and a peaceful content at being able to share some of the festive season with a couple of people who will be embracing the festivities without me having to and without any resulting conflict.

As they say around these parts, "head's a shed, and there's now't worth nicking"
