Day 13:

Replaced the lanyard that I cut off after the chicken test yesterday:

If ya'll are interested in the knots I used, I started a separate thread for that:

Lanyard Knots

Another nice hike with the Rebar.

I carried some "micro-spikes" for my boots on a shoulder strap (just in case of ice). When stored on a should strap, they can still swing around a bit and interfere with stuff on my belt. So the Rebar--with new lanyard--went into my front pocket. I popped the Bosun's knot up under my belt. This way I could still use the lanyard to pull the Rebar out with gloved hands, but it was secure.

This system worked well. I liked the smaller size of the Rebar, in this instance. It's a little big for pocket carry, but perfectly doable. I had no issues during the hike and after a spell forgot it was there.

Bright day and everything looked good with a little dusting of snow. Hard to capture the feel of the landscape.

Day 14:

Love those Brussels Sprouts, El Peacent! How'd you cook them? My favorite recipe involves roasting the sprouts in a hot cast iron pan in a hot oven until they are nicely caramelized. The ones from two days ago I simply steamed. But they always seem to be delicious!

Day 14 starting out with some coffee and a little MTo surfing....

You guys have me thinking about a Super Tool as well now...... :ahhh

Really?!?

Same here, I found a ST300 on clearance at Lowe’s, knew from here that it was a price not walk away from.

It started my path down the MTO road to poverty

I loved it and it was perfect for the current project I was working, it is a beast, yet perfect in my eyes.

Wanting the ST in a smaller package, P-65 told me that the Rebar would be my grail. (I think he gets jollies, seeing others spending $s on M-tools)

He was right, it started an affair, splitting time between my 1st love the ST and a mistress the Rebar, now have 3!

Of course, also have had flings with a OHT, a Surge, and also the Wave.

Variety, the spice of life!  If you love your Rebar, you will like the ST300 as well for those bigger projects requiring attitude.
A group picture of the lovely’s .

In my defense I bought the Rebar second because the ST300 came out first and I got both when they first came out :salute:

Day 14 (continued):

So we've got a kind of Good News/Bad News situation here. Let me explain....

On my way home, I had to stop at the grocery store to pick up a few essentials like cilantro, onions, and milk. No big deal, but the grocery store is right next to the sporting goods store.

Yeah.

There was one ST300 left, and it was the display model. Yeah, they'd give it to me at a good price.....

Good News:

The Rebar now has a big brother.  :ahhh

Bad News:

I'm in the dog house, and Mrs Nix doesn't like you guys anymore.  :twak:

And when I got home, there was mail..... :mail:

Show content
Used the JCAT to open up a package from sticktodrum....

Show content
Inside the package was a protective ziplock......

Which held....

:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh Oh my, oh my, what a way to start the weekend!

I better make something nice for dinner for Mrs. Nix.

 Oh, no, I forgot to go to the grocery store!!!

Mrs Nix will borrow a Juice S2 when she has a mind. She thinks the orange ones are "pretty".

"Pretty"?

These are men's camping tools. Ain't nothing pretty about surviving in the snowy woods with nothing but a Juice S2, several cans of beef stew, a pack of brats, a six-pack of lager, a camp chair, a bonfire, and..... Actually doesn't sound too bad....

Mrs Nix may be fiery, but she's the forgiving sort. How you think we stay married so long? You guys will be out of the dog house in a day or two. No worries.

That’s hilarious!! Congrats on the new tools!   :like:

They just don’t understand the temptation with seeing these tools just sitting there waiting for a home. Like a puppy in a pet shop.

Nice job!

Boy! I feel for you Nix, but forgetting the grocery stop is just so funny.

I at least I waited till my ST300 30day challenge was over before the Rebar was ordered.

Now I see you are a man that sees what he wants and goes for it.  A great trait.

Explain to Mrs. Nix, the with the ST you can now prep a turkey, a goose or even a ENU if so inclined.

Let us know when it’s all clear!

Great purchases have me a tad envious.

Thanks, LC. Yeah, I know, Jaya_Man.

It may be more a case of giving in to temptation a bit too easily--and then getting distracted by a new shiny thing.....  But I'm pretty stoked about the ST 300. I've noticed a few significant differences between the Rebar and the ST 300--apart from size. Interesting.

We had a cabbage, a few carrots, and some leftover chicken in the fridge. So I made a nice little stir-fry for dinner....and gave Mrs Nix a big glass of Pinot Noir. Things are looking good. ;)

Is a challenge considered a fail if, in the middle of it, one decides to buy a different tool?

I'm sticking with the Rebar though, for the rest of this challenge. Even the insanely cool Urban PX is getting put in a drawer. If you ask me right now, the Rebar is my favorite multitool.  :D

Nice toys, I mean tools!  lol  Keep up the great work with the review!

The ST300 is a beast and hard to beat!  To me there is differences in them for sure besides the obvious size difference!

Now once this Rebar challenge is over, you can do a ST300 challenge, then compare notes at the end.  :tu:

this is getting even more interesting. Excellent thread Nix! You just had to get the ST300, as it is the bigger brother of the Rebar and has to be there to supervise and take care of it
I started with the St300 before the Rebar, but both are my favorite LM design and loadout/tool selection
only scissors, that's the one big downside to them   :pok:

I prefer Brussel Sprouts steamed, rather than roasted, but both are delicious

the ST300 has the same feats, but IMO the saw is a huge improvement over the Rebar's
the cutters are also as precise and marvelously engineered, and it's also very photogenic!

Nice catch, and good solution to the grocery problem! The ability to improvise with MTs and improvise with food is very valuable for a prepared man!  :salute:
