Follow-up:

Went and messed with the adjustment on one of the cabinets that was still not quite right. No issues with the Spirit driver.

Unintentionally, I over-torqued one of the adjusting screws--the enemy of good is better--and ended up partially stripping the screw, at which point the Phillip's driver slipped out. This would seem to be a case of operator error instead of poor tool design.    I think the recollected difficulty I mentioned before was due to the tricky angle required by working in the hinge corner of the cabinet.

That leaves me without a clear preference between the Rebar driver and the Spirit driver, at this point.   :-\

on that topic, answering to all those who posted about Rebar vs. Spirit...

The thinner Spirit PH driver has reached places where the LM PH driver wouldn't get, mainly toys and electronics with plastic covers and recessed screws.  :salute:
Small increase in thickness and no tapering in the Rebar's driver made that driver useless more than once, by not fitting into the cavity/channel/hole, but the Spirit's driver also has been problematic on occasion because it is softer and has slipped, dented and bent (at the very tip) on me when the Leatherman PH has not.   :ahhh

Also, the Vic driver has that hump near the pivot that has impeded it to go further into the recessed screw's channel and making it impossible to reach certain depth, so the screw couldn't be properly fit and rotated. Sure, it happened once, but I have that moment in my mind since.    :P

I find the Spirit more ergonomic but prefer Rebar's thinner, more precise tipped jaws, and I'm with those who feel the Reaper is easier to pocket carry, the profile is much more comfortable for some reason.
Locks and deployment...I also prefer the outside accessibility of tools on the Vic, but the nail nicks are harder to use to me so the Rebar wins in the deployment/tool access as well as locking/unlocking because the sliding tabs are harder to operate on some contexts/occasions.

both are the best MT of their respective companies IMO, and the most balanced jack of all trades multi tool available out there with minor differences and some pros/cons that will determine what suits your uses and needs the best in the end   :multi:

I agree with most of what you said, El Peacent.

I have found the opening of one tool set to be significantly easier with one tool or the other. I do like the way the Spirit's construction allow one tool to open at a time. With deploying the Rebar's tools, I usually end up pulling out two or three tools and then folding all but the selected back into the handle.

I know Scott said he found the locks on the Spirit harder to operate, I found the opposite and think the Spirit's tool lock easier to operate. I can unlock a tool and fold it back into the handle with one hand by pinching the locks down with thumb and finger, then folding the tool back against my leg. The Spirit can then be re-sheathed with one hand as well. This feels like an advantage to me.

I also like the way the main blade faces outward, away from the tool, whereas the main blade of the Rebar faces inward. This is likely a minor difference, but one I appreciate.

Day 30:

No real use apart from cutting out a loose string in my Skinth.

Went to a car boot sale and found 2 brand new Led Lensers dirt cheap!

Powerfull, single mode, pocketable lights.
Love 'em!
Will be used whenever my F1R is either to much/expensive for the work ahead.

EDIT: day 30
Those days went by fast...

I loved the Spirit before and still do now!
Only reason I'll carry my Charge AL is for the OHO blade.
If that would be implemented on the Spirit, it would be a 10/10 tool for me while, for now, it's a 9.5/10.

Well I am Scottish but my name is Steve   ;)

Both are good tools and both have their + and -   :tu:

In regards to the medium driver on the Rebar I agree with ThePeacent and I modded mine to be slimmer all along it's length.

Day 30:

Reloading .357 Magnum today.

Spirit awl proves very useful for helping to clean out the flash hole and the primer pocket. I use a tool to deburr the interior side of the flash hole, but the awl does the trick on the exterior. Pliers come in handy for tightening/loosening the case trimming tool as need.

Great summeries from you early birds.  I'll have to take your word for the compairison with the Rebar.  The closest I've come to a Rebar is walking past one still in the bubble card for sale at the hardware store.  Speaking of bubble cards, I finaly remembered to try out the chisel on one.  That's the easiest time I have ever had opening one of those things.  That alone is good enough reason to have started the challenge.

Yes, that's a great little tool. The Spirit has a marvelous tool set, that's for sure.

Day 19

Emergency trimming my mustache at work.. Here is one thing that the spirit does not do very well. I actually prefer the 91mm scissors for that task but I'm at work and it had to be done

I have the same issue with the scissors.  :ahhh  I find them to be the Spirit's weakest link.  I think it is mostly due to them being designed left handed.

The Vic 91/93mm scissors are clearly more effective. Still, some scissors are better than no scissors.  >:D

My problem is more about the fact that they are so short and don't open as wide.. The left handed part is no problem.. I'm right handed but write with my left.. I'm weird but can still use both hands for cutting..

I heard a crack when opening the cabinet's door. Turns out a hinge's spring broke.

This challenge was a breeze. Is it any wonder, though?
We're not talking about a no-name cheapo here.

Douglas suggested I join this challenge, and I did not have to think too hard. :salute:
I edc a Rebar (modded with scissors), and it was nice to have almost the same set of implements available in the Spirit.

Having all-outside tools was nice. No issues with deploying anything, and I can close them one-handed pushing with index while pulling down the lock with middle and thumb. Great snap as well.
No pocket clip was not an issue, since my Rebar doesn't have one either.
The scissors are a little weird, being left-handed, and not opening all that much, but they are great push cutters, and handled everything well.

I will be going back to the Rebar for the two dedicated blades and the pliers, but the Spirit was fun. I might be on the lookout for its big brother.  :like:

Probably when January ends, so all early birds are done.  :gimme:
Otherwise we'll have to wait until everyone finishes, on February 10.  :-\

I was planning on doing a day 31, but backed out last minute.
Which appears to be a good thing!
Working conditions today are way to bad for a fine tool like the Spirit.

Day 30,
wondering about getting a Spirit after lurking this thread for a month?

Let me point you in the right direction... :D

It's proven capable and worthy of the Best Jack Of All Trades title that it's had for long time now. This and the Rebar are the kings of current medium sized MTs, in my opinion.

anybody so kind to remind me how do I ask for the badge?
I'm pretty useless for these things

The thread is here
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,59292.0.html

Usually a moderator awards them on his own when members complete the challenge and qualify for them, without the members asking for them through the proper procedure. I am thinking it's not official and every time it's happened it was just out of the kindness of the moderator, and simply in this challenge no one has stepped in to award the badges. Maybe someone is waiting for all early birds to reach day 30, but maybe the early birds will be forced to wait for the late bloomers to go to day 30, which I hope does not happen.
