I have now gotten to the point that I think the U.S. Kutmaster MTs are a bit better than the newer China Kutmaster MTs. The newer ones do have a few extra functions, but they have left behind the slim, heavy duty essence of the original. The newer ones are o.k, but not true to the original.
The older thick lock tab on the plier handle is a far superior lock to the newer sheet metal lid tab that the new ones lock with.

Ahhh. Back when Kutmaster had some QC and nice designs for their sheaths. The newest sheath for an MM I have is plain black and made like a $10 MT sheath.

The colors are awesome.

Finally found a good deal on an older KutMaster 2pc BN jaw MultiMaster.

Older 2pc BN, Older 2pc NN, Newer NN, and Newer BN.

And of course, if anyone is interested, here is the listing I bought to see how rough the tool was.

It is my favorite of the MM sheaths. The newest versions have nothing on the sheath, which is kind of sad really.

So, I am sure that the 3 MultiMaster sheaths I have pictured aren't all of the variations, but it is what I have at the moment.

Left to right: Early version, intermediate productions version(one of them anyway), and Latest version.
Accessories shown are what came with the tools, except the early version(which originally came with more double-ended bits).

The MMs are definitely better IMO. Not as many functions, but what it does, it does well. The cutters are the only thing I think aren't good. They cut much much better than the Wrench Head(18-2 wire can be cut), but not like some modern MTs. The older 2pc jaws come apart, so some manipulation of geometry could help with that.

Yeah, my Wrench Head is abysmal at cutting wire. But, I don't care about romex, I care only about stranded wire. Speaker wire, motorcycle wiring harness wire, etc. Anything can cut romex, but stranded is where it's at.

That said, this would just be for a pair of pliers to replace the cheap garbage pliers that come in a standard motorcycle tool kit. I thought the Wrench Head could do that duty, and thought the tools were a good fit - spark plug gauge and t-handle driver... but... it just sucks as a pair of pliers. Even the Winchester version just sucks. :/

Might abandon the idea altogether and just put a Gerber MP600 in there and call it done.

Good thing I don't use romex for MT wire cutting tests. I tend to agree thicker solid core wire is just too easy to cut with bad cutters.

I was/am a vintage/antique lighting repair speSmurfpillst, so the 18-2 I usually write about it stranded copper lamp wire.

And the blade is stamped on the older version "Kutmaster USA". Really cool. Kutmaster, like Bear, I feel would really have a nice tool if they just put more effort into them. My problems with them are largely steel type: it may have something to do with mine being overruns/seconds, but the cutters on both of the users of mine got dinged cutting hard wire types I regularly cut with Leathermans (both with regular and replaceable cutters); and a saw that is designed as a jack of all trades, but cuts nothing well. I feel that if Kutmaster made some small design tweaks, and chose better materials, it would be a winner. The basic design of the tool is one of the oldest on the market (Kutmaster was the first cutlery maker to compete with LM), but in my mind, it ain't broke, just needs a little work. Tough pliers, a great bit driver, pliers handle that makes a great hammer, and use of common hardware (No. 2 Phillips throughout, versus tiny Torx screws) throughout is what I like best about the design.

I guess they make enough money making flatware and doing contract work; it isn't anywhere close to their priorities to improve an ancient design only us nuts here even really care about or are familiar with.

It is definitely one of the older designs that could be made more relevant with just some minor alterations.
My favorite thing about it is the slot lock(not the sheet metal one on the Wrench Head and Realtree). Even if it were to slip out, the handle still keeps the implements from getting a finger.

Kutmaster could do well with a MultiMaster+(one with the revisions you mentioned).
