Deep fried shallot in a bottle, just so random pix I got online, but this is the soul of this whole recipe and adds mojo to everything you put it on... :tu:

I love crispy fried onions!  And they are popular in so many cuisines,  from France to India to Mexico.

Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to see where I can find dried shrimp. Might have some at my local natural grocery store.

Day 21

Only a bit of a scar but the puck is one again. Bruce still had a very small nick in the blade that may be able to be seen as causing a line in the cut in the first pic. 5-10 minutes with the puck and he's cutting clean again. The puck is still rougher than the diamond stones and doesn't strop out all the scratch marks, but it is pretty quick and I only used the fine side

Nice and glad to see your puck is back together again!  :tu:

Day 21

I was stropping some of my knives, and figured I should give some TLC to Chip Chop as well.  Strop is definitely an essential part of my sharpening and repairing tool, don't know I'm gonna do without it.

:hatsoff: I practically was ready to sneak into that building to get that shot, but luckily the security guard was very understanding and I apparently weren't the first one to ask the same question. :D

I have done that before! I have even driven onto property and knocked on the property owners door and asked if I could take photos! They had a natural waterfall on their land. Quite beautiful.

And a Bonus, very rare Victorinox Axplorer, aimed at young children it was particularly popular with girls to chop firewood for their dolls house, popularity dropped with the advent of central heating and it was withdrawn from the market shorty after   ;)

Wondering if I can make this handle fit
But I think it will be to long and awkward looking or I can maybe cut of some at the bottom and shape it some more :dunno:

If it was me trying to fit that handle, I'd remove excess from the top to get the length of the handle in the eye. If material was taken it from the bottom the handle will be very lop sided and the continuity of grain will be more compromised. Also then thinning it down will make the proportions a bit better  :tu:

Thanks Rob! I'm very new to the whole axe hanging thing so all input are much appreciated :hatsoff:
I'll see what I can do with it, and I have most of the old handle still to compare it with :tu:

Actually, Borg, it was withdrawn after a class action lawsuit. Several people injured themselves with the Axplorer because the weight of the ax head lead to that particular blade opening up under the force of gravity. My sister* lopped the top of her right index finger off when using the Axplorer (a design suited for right handed people, but less so for lefties).  Sadly my sister* did not qualify for the class action lawsuit because her injury was not related to the spontaneous opening issue. As a result she ended up quitting her pursuit of a carrer as a pianist and took up the drums. A decision we all regretted.....

*I don't actually have a sister.
