I'd seen that video before, but I enjoyed watching it again. Nice to see an expert at work.  :tu:

I was actually puzzled why name all those parts to begin with but i guess if you went to a blacksmith wanting him to make you an axe with a medium sized head, narrow eye, wide cheek, long toe, single bit, long beard and curved heel, heavy poll and a wide shoulder, straight belly, long haft, average throat, good grip with a wide knob, without those names the blacksmith wouldn't have a clue what you wanted, easier to specify with words  :dunno:

Interesting though, the only ones i was familiar with were cheek, bit, poll and beard..we learn something new every day  :tu:

I'm in.      :woohoo:      Going to be fun! I'll probably use more than one axe. I'm thinking about trying to use a Saddle axe quite a bit.    :D

1. Nix (hasn't decide which axe...)
2. Rapid Ray (needs a vacation axe)
3. RF52 (hasn't committed to the challenge, but will in a couple of days)
4. Borg (planning on a smallish axe)
5. Styx (most likely, if things haven't gone full-on 'berserker', and even then, perhaps.)
6. Greg 'Chopper' Jones (with a couple axes and a positive attitude.)
7. KBM3 (with an axe to be named later...)
8. Fuzzbucket (with a cobbled together midden relic)
9. 'Battle Axe' Barry Rowland
10. Noa Isumi (with multiple axes)
11. David

I was dreaming about axes last night, I'm not kidding. I was looking at Rinaldi ones before I went to bed and ended up dreaming about the smurfers... That's not healthy is it?

Oooh, Rinaldi axes...

Remind me not to go looking at Rinaldi axes

The good thing about some challenges is that it makes you get your finger out and do something about those projects you have on the backburner, those " i will do it later" ones. As it's only 6 months till the challenge i thought i better make a start on sorting out a couple of weekenders, the Stubai (shiny one) is ready to go and i found a couple of Elwells that need attention, those will be re shafted, sharpened and oiled  :woohoo:

I assume some of you guys are the same but when i break an axe it gets thrown to the side and the backup gets used, the backup gets replaced and so it goes on, we never quite get round to repairing the broken or damaged ones, those get nearer and nearer to the shed door as the years go by and soon enough they are lying scattered around outside slowly returning to nature, well..no more, i will make it my mission to return any axe i find to good usable condition

:salute:  we all have to do our bit to save these, ok it's my own fault these are in this condition in the first place but i will do my best to bring them back, i have seen the error of my ways

Found 2 more to add to the mix, another Elwell and a CK, i think i have a couple of knives from CK, an old German brand from way back,  seems they have been based in Wales since the 50's, i'm not a huge fan of metal hafts so it will be a challenge in itself to carry this one, it is nice and small though :tu:

Yep styx, had them for a few years just waiting to be used, it's now or never  :tu:

I'm just going to rehaft and sharpen them Speedy, i like shiny tools but sometimes they are best left rusty and dirty with their own patina  :tu:

On the handle written in pen is 21/6 i wonder if that's it's price in old money?, 21 shillings and 6 pence, if so it would make it pre 1971,  i have had it many years and i certainly didn't get it new,  i never used it so i guess it's possible for the price to stay visible so long  :dunno:
