Vintage Fuzz Day 23

It was the Bullnose's time in the kitchen today - makes a surprisingly good kitchen knife... right up until you remembered what you used it for last.

ICC #4? ICC #5? I don't know, I wasn't really listening, some crap about sharpening... That one!

Like most of you traditionalists, I use the Lansky rod system too, although it's a very old decrepit one that's seen better days.

... (pauses - drinks coffee)...

However, I only tend to use that now, if a blades chipped, needs reprofiling or is in a pretty bad way. Most of the time I just use a little Lansky Crock Stick, which I find gets most knives, even really dull ones, hair-poppingly sharp with perseverance - the important thing...

... (pauses - drinks coffee)...

... I find, is to keep the rods absolutely clean and free of any metal particles with an eraser. Like Nix, I also use a Sharpy to help see what's happening.

I don't tend to do the paper thing, I much prefer shaving the back of my hand or forearm, but here goes... Actually, you know what, I find sharpening a pencil is by far the best indicator of a knifes sharpness... Anyway, sorry, here goes...

Also, I don't know if anybody else has found this, but I find that once carbon steel develops a patina, it's much easier to get a good edge. Anybody else?

I decided to try something else.

To pick a nice spot and make pics facing South, West, North, and East.

This is from one of the bridges on the river Aa near my home.

Day 23:

ICC#4:

I use various sharpening stones like whetstones or diamond stones and I have a Lansky fixed angle system for heavy sharpening
Today I used a very fine stone for fixing the edge on my Opinel.
I'm not an expert sharpener but my knives usually turns out quite sharp.
I don't really have any tips that hasn't already been mentioned as most tips I have picked up on mto anyway

Day 23
The missus figured I'm getting cranky a bit being home and not able to do much one-handed.
It was great to stretch the legs although the weather wasn't that great... we didn't care and enjoyed the day outdoors.
