Leatherman Kore
on: April 25, 2019, 07:00:01 PM
Yeah.. Kore with a K.

K for Klein. Klein Tools.

The original Klein's electrician multi-tool is a big and heavy brick for anyone that has handled before. It's pretty comfy in the hands but its sheer size, weight and limited toolset makes it difficult and hardly worthy to carry around even in a sheath.

Essentially a pliers transplant (again). I really like to have it as an edc at work due to the nature of my job and the combo pliers looks hardy and interesting. So.. here you go.  :D

A partially stripped down Klein Multitool. I should be able to turn the left over knife into a nice folder. The excellent philips and flathead looks to be able to fit into a Gerber.

The 4 long tools are able to retain their position without issue.

Due to the massive pliers taking up most of the real estate, most of the internal tools have to be reworked. Still a WIP.  Leaving them empty for the time being.

Will leave this as is for the moment. Going to have a good think through on what I want in the tool load. Weekend is coming. Pretty excited to start filling the slots.

What a beauty! :dd:
Can't wait to see what you manage to cram into it. And that Klein folding knife is not bad either. :like:

Can't..  :( it's about 1mm thicker. That is why I chose the core. The zytel insert are easier to file down.

Frickin awesome mod, Sam!

I was wondering when you were gonna bust up the Klein.   :D

How is the pivot size and snap in with the Klein head in the Core handles?

 :D took me long enough..

The pivot size are smaller on the Klein's. I didn't want to drill cos I need to offset to one side so I have allowance to play with the pliers snap when open. Happy to report it snaps perfectly.  ;)

Alot of trial and error this weekend.. Doesn't seems to have alot of space... A little reluctant to reprofiled the pliers..  :ahhh

Tiring but a rather satisfying day. Manage to load up the Kore. Pretty much all are non stock tools.

Did not manage to get it fully close because of the long philips. For that reach, I can live with the slight gap.  :)

At rest, there's is a slight gap.

Tools when stow. With that massive pliers head, there isn't really much space. Had to do a whole lot of grinding on all the tools to allow the pliers to sit in.

Tool load? I had to reprofile all of them as gave them new nail nicks. Yes there are 2 long phillips in there. Was considering leaving it as is as they are really good. Or, when 1 breaks, I will convert it into a punch or an awl.

Expansion? Still fits typical bits.

Great work, as always! :like:

If one flathead was like the SOG awl, it would allow a blade in the space the awl is now.

:hatsoff: that will definitely work. But I didn't want a blade in there. Usually I will have something else that can open one hand or at least from the outside.. Most of the time, a much shorter blade just for slashing.

I have totally no idea how to multi quote... So.. a big  :salute: :salute: to every one. GLBM, this is one of the more challenging and fun project due to the space constraint. Alot of eyeball measurement and physical fitting. But it was real fun nevertheless.  :hatsoff: I did some minor change to the load. put in a stock file and shift the awl to the centre.  :)
