Sorry yes, one of those

I got mine today and I am quite happy with it  :tu:

I would like to mod it and add scissors from a wave. Are those proprietary screws that need a special tool? Don't really want to use a vise grip if i don't have to.

The Rebar is the most difficult LM tool to remove the tool-end screws from. You'll most definitely want to acquire the Loki-wrenches. :ahhh

When I was a bit of an MT novice, I took some grips to the tool-end screws. It didn't go to well and I had to buy a parts Rebar to fix it.

That's basically the way I do it. I keep a Classic in my watch pocket in case I have to pull it out in public where I don't know what the reaction to a knife would be and its awesome scissors.  I've been in places where no one cared that I was using a Buck 110; and places where a woman went nuts over me using a Classic SD.

Fresh off the ST300 challenge, I'm even more excited about getting one. Hopefully I can keep my expenses down to where I can afford a used one this month.

:iagree: I would just check ebay for a while. It took me a few weeks but I got mine for $28, which I consider a pretty good deal, for the shape it is in  :tu: Just need some patience.

loki's wrenches are excellent. They fit a ton of tools, too (Rebar, ST, ST200, ST300, Blast, Core, Fuse, Kick, Charge AL, PST).
I also scratched my Rebar screws trying to just grip them. Once I had the wrenches, everything became a million times easier.

Highly recommended to anyone who wants to mod tools with knurled screws.

This thread is not helping me at all!  I am posed with the same dilemma Cody was... do I get a good pliers based MT?  The wave is great, but I cut a lot of wire and the replaceable wire cutters are awesome for this, I use the actual pliers a ton, and various drivers/mini pry bar/scrapers.  Not so much on knife blades or saws/files, so those being on the inside (as opposed to the OHO on the Wave) is a non-issue.

I looked around and thought, Rebar has got to be the one!  I've been him-hawing about it for weeks!  For those who carry a different knife or Vic SAK as main blade, and mostly just need the pliers, drivers and cutters... it makes the most sense to me.

I'm still like.. hmmm.. huuuhhh.. do I?  Do I really need it?  I've got a Wingman and Sidekick already... but.. those are kinda heavy, no replaceable cutters... other issues...

Asking for a Do I/Don't I around here is like asking a meth addict if you should take up smoking or not.  Of course they are going to say YES!

That is a good way to look at it.  Especially if going on the used market for one.

The Rebar is a must have tool at the same time it is a lot of tool for the money.  That said I cannot understand why someone would want to mess with perfection and mod this tool by adding a pocket clip and scissors. I just don’t get it.

I found a NIB leather sheath Rebar for $28(sold as pre-owned since box was open) after looking around a while. I had a Rebar before that, but gave it to a fellow member, so I was looking to find one cheap to replace it. Patience paid off then. Best of luck finding a good second-hand Rebar! :)

That's a great price on one. Most I've been watching in online auctions/sales have been selling around $40. Which seems good for one in used but like new condition.

I'm confused..the Wave has replacable cutters as well or am I missing something?

It does now.... Wave+. But I'm not looking to buy either new, or at that price point.

I probably wasn't clear the first time.  The Rebar allows one to get the 154CM replaceable wire cutters at half to 2/3 the price of any other LM tool, so for me, it wins points there.

I brought up the Wave because it's often the de facto standard recommendation for anyone looking to buy a full sized multi tool of any sort.

But I see the biggest selling point of the Wave being the outside accessed tools, and one hand opening of those tools. I need that a lot less than I do good pliers heads, a multitude of driver options and the superior wire cutters.  Therefore, the Waves biggest pluses become moot for me.

Obviously for a gazillion others this is not the case.

The rebar has its place regardless. super slim, dense toolset, great pliers,  :tu: :tu:

Absolutely, as does the Wave I think.  Always good to have a multitude of options available to us to fit the various needs of the tool using consumer.

It'd be a whole lot of suck if they only made 1 or 2 options.

Just picked up a new rebar online... $41 with nylon sheath.  Sweet.

I'm excited!  Now the wait until it arrives.  So thanks mto, your encouragement was apparently needed to push me to the decision point.

Thanks to the generosity of Barry, I now have a Rebar.  Already put it to quite a bit of work today, and to say the least, I think this will be my most used LM.  Has what tools I need to get the job done, no other stuff, and at just under 7 ounces, it will not weigh me down, whether on my belt, or in a pocket. Plus, unlike my SwissChamp, it has pliers that can do heavy work, and no additional components I don't always need (i.e. fish scaler, mag lens, corkscrew). And the only tool it lacks (other than the ST300s crimper and stranded wire cutter) is the short and thick flat driver. It was too thick for the light prying tasks I typically did; and too fat to fit any flat headed screw I typically used.
