Don't know this is a recent buy or not, but congrats on finding the BYSAK, and the scales do look impeccable. :tu:

They do, don't they? Remarkable for a SAK from the 1910's...

Day 12: A traditional design, with antler handle, from Cutelaria Martins. They tried to improve it with a kind of viroblock, probably inspired by Opinel, but didn't manage to do a very good job. The lock is very thin and doesn't really block the blade. I thought of replacing it with a thicker and stronger piece of metal, but haven't got around to do it yet.

Day 12
The Kershaw Natrix XL is based on the ZT 0700.
While I'm not fond of flippers,I tolerate them,I abhorr deep carry clips and haven't changed it out yet. That's s probably because I don't carry the Natrix much, but I quite like it

I can understand.  Although I do like flippers, I do have a few knives where I really like almost everything about them, but 1 thing will keep me from carrying.
Day 12
Another PST ('93)  :hatsoff:

Nice one.
Teutonic Fuzz Day 12

Another one of my old man's fixies. This one's a Black Forest Hunting Knife from the 50s and was a real superstar of my childhood. I knew where it was kept, but didn't let on to my folks, and at any available opportunity I'd sneak it out for an adventure. It was like a sword on my belt...  :duel:

Nice pair.  It is a little surprising to see a post from you without at least one traditional knife.

Day 12: The pride of my collection, my birth year SAK.  Bought off the bay from a german seller (really have to go across the pond to get a real soldier).
Couldn't believe I could find one with such good wood fiber scales.

I can see why it would be the pride of the collection.

Day 12:

I slipped a Gerber Edict into my pocket this morning. Later I needed to secure a tarp and cut up a length of 550 cord to fashion four guy lines.

I run hot and cold on Gerber, but this Edict is a surprisingly nice knife. 154CM blade, comfortable handle, good lock up. I took the pocket clip off--its thin profile lets it ride in a pocket easily. I'm not sure what is up with the blade shape, but I like it anyway.

Just watched another CS video about the Tai Pan, looks really impressive! :tu:   How's the balance in hand?  Close to index finger?

One heck of a setup here! :like:   But one I would not wear without belt... :D

I think the ZT/Kershaw setup is smart, sometimes designer ZT knives would trickle down to mass production Kershaw line, and making it more widely available and less expensive to try.  One could always pick up a less expensive option in Kershaw to try out, and decide to upgrade to more expensive version in ZT if that's their thing.

Seems to be right on the metal collar behind the guard.

Day12
So for a long time my standard pairing has been a Leatherman ST300 and a Victorinox Trekker. Today I'm going back to something old as far as a holster and that is my Maxpedition tc5 with the flashlight holder. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm replacing ST300 with a Leatherman rebar and bit kit which totals the same weight.

Just have to try and see how works out.

Oh and one photo note the little velvet kind of pouch is from a monthly perfume sampler that my wife used to get but it's the perfect size to hold the three bit cards together for organization

( belated) DAY 12

Today's  knife is the awesome Ontario Rat 2.  A great little knife , flicks open easy, easy to clean . In hi vis pink so as to not lose it when I put it down on job sites etc,  and also, no one steals pink  knives:D
Four way pocket clip also means it can be carried any way you want , so it's even lefty friendly

And no self-righteous guy is gonna steal a pink knife!   I don't like pink, but if a pink handle version is on sale for cheaper than its masculine counterparts, I buy it anyway.  Recently, I've seen that a lot in the Case Caliber series. Pink camo seems to be the most discounted ones.  Given how certain Land Rovers were painted in pink for desert use by the British military, just think of it as a fancy form of Desert Tan.

Pink is also an easy color to find if you lose it. I typically like orange, but given my workbench quite often is the orange tailgate of a Kubota RTV, it tends to blend in.  I'm eventually getting the Cruel Girl (company that makes Western jeans for women) Action Roper from Boker--a nearly fully serrated AUS-8 blade and FRN handles.

Day 12. I originally started today with a small folder, but task after task piled up. And during that, a new knife delivered by the Fedex guy while I was doin that work happened to be just what the doctor ordered--a decently sized fixed blade.  While weed eating, I noticed a post near a gate was loose, which resulted in a huge gap. Since this is a hayfield, I had to cut a working area, and remove a ton of some sort of vine off the fence in order to get my T-post and tie wire where it needed to go.  I also cut weed eater string with it, made lunch, and uh, a ton of things I forgot. I expected this to be a cheap POS, but it is surprisingly decent, and in many ways (except for the fact it uses a mystery stainless steel and Moras just seem made better) surperior to a comparable Mora knife in the $15 range. It is full-tang, with a decently thick 4" blade, and is slimmer than a Mora, and thus carries better. Ergonomics are good too. The whole knife rides higher than the Mora as well.  Steel might be a mystery, but it is tough. Held an edge, so not 3Cr13MOV, 420J2, or 5Cr15. Guessing 440A.

Day 8: SOG PowerAccess

Today it's another lovely SOG, my PowerAccess. Snagged it for $30 and it was my tiptoe into SOG multitools. It's surprisingly good. I'm really, really pleased with this thing. It carries like a light-duty tool. It barely weighs more than my Gerber Octane, and it's far less than my Wingman. It's slim and sleek and smaller than the Wingman, Suspension NXT, or even the Octane. It disappears into a front pocket with a nice deep carry, and it doesn't weigh my pants down. And... it's surprisingly robust. As you can see in the photos, I used the compound leverage to grip a staple and leverage it out against the 2x4. Any other pair of pliers I wouldn't have been able to grip the staple, it would have slid up and leveraged against the top of the staple. While that would have been no problem with this staple, often the wires are in the way, and it's easy to accidentally leverage against the wires when using other pliers. With the sog, they never slip. The compound leverage is really useful, it's not just a gimmick. I mean, these seem like light-duty pliers when you first look at them, but they do some heavy duty tasks better than my Gerber MP600 can. This tool hits way, way, WAY above its pay grade both in size and price. The phillips driver is well made with good reach and doesn't cam out, the file is sharp and cuts into steel, aluminum, and wood without issue. (It also will file stainless pretty well, for a while. But this damages the file). It has a full selection of flat drivers. It doesn't have saw or scissors, but what it does have is high quality and every tool useful.

The only real downside to me is it's a bit sharp in the hand. It's not nearly as bad as the Suspension NXT though, and it's actually more comfortable than the PowerPlay when using the screwdrivers, because the gears are protected and not sticking out. (The PowerPlay is more comfortable when using the pliers or blades). Overall I really enjoy this tool, and I carry it more lately than any other, just because it's so lightweight and slim. The comfort is not as important when I need a lightweight urban carry with lots of functionality, without weighing me down. But if I know I'm going to be working in the garage all day, I'll grab the PowerPlay or my Gerber MP600, because they're a little more comfortable to use.

Charles.

That would be an interesting project in itself, how would you plan to execute it?  I am wild guessing a possible transplant from an existing Opinel, or to add a thicker strip of metal and glue it onto the surface of this current ring?

It's cool to see a lockback with modernized handle material, after the 112 Challenge and doing some research, I have more respect for this age old desgin.
