Day 23

Gerber Stockman

Somewhat less traditional, with stainless blades and a backlocked main blade.

That's pretty wild.  I assume this is a hunting knife, and that's for easy cleaning.

Easy cleaned for sure  :tu:

That's a cool one, Borg. I remember seeing a design that many years ago. I had totally forgotten about that until your post. Thanks for sharing that one!   :tu:

Yeah i remember similar years ago too, you never see them now..i wonder why not :D

Wow! :o   There I thought it may be a cool liner lock knife, totally blew my mind!  Have you tried flicking it off like a shuriken?
(Image removed from quote.)

It's not very one hand friendly as you need to open the ball detent first, then flick while trying to remember what part of the blade is sharp, doable with practice i would think, i will leave it though, very few of my knives have drawn my blood but this is one that has, i have a healthy respect for it now  :D

 design by Francesco Pachi for Beretta,  swing handles take a bit of getting used to..

(Image removed from quote.)

That is intriguing... Got a friend who's a real Beretta buff, I'll have to point this out to him!

Day 19: Elk Ridge ER-301

I like hardware stores. When I travel, I like to find the old-timey-ist hardware store I can find, and buy something from their knife case. Especially if I'm in an area for a while. So, I was on a work trip just outside of DC, and I picked this up at Brown's Hardware in Falls Church VA.

It's not an expensive knife. I think it cost me $20 in the store, and you can get them for half that on Amazon. But it spoke to me and I snagged it.  The oak handle matches my watch, the pocket clip is perfect, the shape and blade are all great. It's a nice small, unassuming knife to carry in a big city. Came really sharp too, and seems to hold an edge well. I like it and carry it occasionally.  Here it is making short work of some bangers and eggs this morning.

Charles.

Day 23
Here are my two Gerber.

I've used the EAB Lite to trim some corners of a plastic insert to fit in my drill.
It's a solid tool with a good lock, no play and clip.
The fit and finish is not perfect but reasonable.

And then there is the original Multiplier aka Mr.Pinchy which has lots of character  :D
The pliers are great, the knife blades not so much.
I'm sure they're better on later models.

Scrapper? For preparing hides?

Too slow Sanny, too slow...

YES!... Although, actually it's more of a drill bit than an awl - it would've been fixed to the end of a wooden shaft and possibly rotated at speed using a bow. Well done cuz!  :2tu:

What kind of cordage is that? Looks quite narrow. I've only had clunky results trying to attach a lanyard by use of a shackle/bail made from a coat hanger or a factory example taken from an old electrician's knife. That kind would look (and work) so much better.
It's Type I paracord (275 lb) that's been decored.

Ivo, you do have a healthy collection from this brand.  How do you like them?

I like them very much but never used them so I don't know if they are good to use. They feel solid enough so I thing they do well.  :hatsoff:

Day 23:
(National Day of Remembrance for
Victims of Terrorism!)

I followed Powernoodle's example today and pulled out my Al Mar Small SERE. This knife is....36 years-old.... :o  I thought the SERE was a brilliant design, and the last knife I'd ever buy. (Go on, you've told your self the same thing, I know you have. And I'm sure we all mean it at the time.....)

I have to say this knife has exquisite construction, fit, and finish. And I still think the design is quite nice: part utility, part survival, part tactical. However, for just a wee bit more weight, I find a Buck 110 to be more useful and comfortable. I've also become a bit suspicious that the vertical stress riser formed by the swedge is a potential weak point. Still, I love it and have taken it on many an adventure.
