Pre-Day 1. These are my choices for the next 30 days.

Fixed blade:
Made one major change. Instead of my great-Granddad's old butcher knife  I chose my Mora Eldris. One, comfortable to carry in my pocket all day long. Secondly, while I'm in VA, I do most of my business in WV, since I am actually closer to many different store locations (10 minutes vs. as much as 45 in VA) in WV than I am in VA. VA allows anything except for dirks, daggers, and machetes  WV has a limit, 3.5" or under (which I just now learned; and have now applied to my EDC); doesn't matter if fixed or folding. Supposedly just for "concealed"; but I apply it to all.  Besides, I can't have a 7" butcher knife being an EDC. The Mora, being just over 2" perfectly legal as long as fixed blades are allowed. I can tuck the Mora in a pocket when I don't want to attract attention, or slip it on my belt when working. I didn't buy the kit which included a rig for neck carry and a firesteel. I just bought the knife and belt loop. But, if I want neck carry, I just use a breakaway whistle lanyard (for safety) and any good quality large split ring. I actually carry the Eldris a lot. My goal here is EDC, not just taking pictures of it everyday.

Folder, Cattaraugus Cutlery 31 pattern Barehead Jack. I went over the oldest of the old in my collection. Nearly all my Stockmen that were made 1960 or before had unacceptable wobble.  A 1920s Landers, Frary, and Clark Wharncliffe was a bit too small in my view for "the real work" I do on the farm (and besides, not at all common). 1880s Wostenholm--way too rare to ever see carry. Then came my Cattaraugus Barehead Jack. This was an RAOK from a Cattaraugus-speSmurfpillst member on another forum who was selling it as "parts or repair" and I mentioned I wanted my first Cattaraugus and didn't mind that it was filler. Blades are worn down a lot, but snap like bear traps, have half-stops, and still hold an edge. Bone has been patched at one point as well. But, still good as an EDC.  Isn't a remake made in Case's factory in 2004, or an AG Russell made in Japan. This is an original made in the Little Valley, NY plant before 1960 (when it closed).

Axe, Estwing Camper's Axe. This example is only 2 years old. I chose it over my vintage axes and hatchets for safety; as head and handle are one-piece. Can't really EDC it, but those tiny little "back pocket" axes can't really do much. This can; as well as hammer.

 Forgot it starts in Sept. not March. But I can swear I'm signed up for a challenge in Mar. But, for sure, they'll be getting a lot of use. I actually went out in public with the Eldris on my belt, and no one cared. Keep in mind, I'm in a big hunting area.

I'm pretty certain I will do this challenge but want to wait to see whats going on later in the summer before I make it official. The axe and fixed blade are a given. Being the Council Tool Saddle Axe and the Rndall #5. The folder is still being comtemplated.        :D
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

The Moose is at the fore front and is the natural choice to stay close to Nessmuk tradition as possible. But he aint loose yet!    :D

Thank you!  Kinda half painted it pixel by pixel, and by dumb luck, it didn't turn out too shabby. :D

Pixel by pixel, are you sure?

I thought you used the old knife with some black and some Prussian blue, some crimson, maybe even a little bit of Van Dyke brown, and just got a little roll of paint right out on the edge of your knife and just painted a happy little moutain, right there... then took out a clean dry two inch brush to create the illusion of mist, and then used the same mountain colour, but added a little of sap green in there too, and used the fan brush to create the evergreen trees in the front...

Anyway, your way worked just fine it seems, beautiful badge my friend  :sa:.

With a badge like that, I guess I just have to join...  ::)

i'm not even on the fence, i'm just wondering how to pull of the first week as we'll be on vacation (the hatchet part would be a bit difficult)

I want to do this challenge; it would be my first challenge. But I don’t have a fixed blade, so I’m soliciting input to what I should buy. I don’t want to spend more than $100 as I won’t used a fixed very often. Was thinking the Gerber strong arm or prodigy.

Thoughts? Other suggestions?
