During WESTPAC 2006, I had occasion to sample some Vegemite from Australian military rations. Not my thing.

You mean Yeast Extract? It's likely the real stuff (Vegemite).
I'm not a fan of either. Never once did I feel tempted to eat one of these, and I've lived on these packs for weeks at a time without fresh, not great.

Thanks Echotech.  I agree, I think an alox would be a nice addition.  The Farmer X would make a good trio with the S17 and Huntsman I would think.  :iagree:
Christmas isn't too far away.
:iagree: FX is a great choice

I don't think you spread it like Vegemite?  My dad used to drink it when I was a kid (mix it with hot water), I can still remember the smell.
My missus likes Vegemite, but doesn't have it often. It's always on the bench or in the cupboard, although it's safe around me  :pok:

The first time I tried it I used way too much and thought it was horrible. They key is to start using it sparingly....really, really sparingly. After a while I started using more and more. Now I seem to have developed a craving for it. Good stuff!  :tu:

It's the cocaine of, well, whatever vegemite comes from.  :pok:

PS-Looked up what vegemite comes from, and I'm sure I won't be looking for any soon.   :-\

I know Vegemite is (somewhat?) available in other countries, but I'm not sure how easily available Bonox is?
Maybe it could be an added bonus, some kind of credit or such, for those who can do a challenge within the challenge. A breakfast of Vegemite on toast washed down with a nice hot mug of Bonox.
The trick is that you have to also keep it down  :duel:
The Vegemite lovers are half way there already. I'm game.  :dunno:

Powernoodle Day 19

I used the Pocket Tool Chest to open a package containing eyeglasses that I ordered online.  Honestly, the scissors were terrible and barely made it through the package.

Edit:  the standard Victorinox scissors would have eaten this with no problem.

Ahhhh, shoot.....

I'm reading this whilst sipping my tea and just having finished me toast. Tomorrow I'll grab a shot of my Vegemite toast.

Bonox? Never heard of it. Never seen it. So I'll lose this challenge......

Day 17: Opened a ginger beer with the PTC caplifter.  It's not a bad tool, but the angle of the caplifter is just a bit shallow to get a good grip on the cap edge.

Day 19.

Just back from a day at my airgun club where we are building a new, 30 target, course.  Many a cord and rope was cut with the Evowood, the only sharp knife in anyone's pocket.  Did I think to take one single photo of this?  I did not.

Recently I did a very quick and imprecise Delemont scissors test, similar survival cord was one of the tests and had no problem

I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a QC issue with them as I tried to cut some thin plastic bag handles with an Evo18 recently and it didn’t work well at all, VIC scissors cut it easily. Tried Evo14 and no problem :dunno:

(Image removed from quote.)

I wouldn't be surprised if QC was a factor, it can't be easy to accurately and consistently peen scissors  :dunno:

First cut they just bound up, and then they started to cut, I could have done it, but using the knife would have just been so much easier.

I'm sure they're good at something, I just need more experience with them  :tu:

Wenger Traveller.  This is a pretty popular 3 layers SAK, similar to the Climber in the Vic camp.  But I never did find out what's the meaning behind the silver pig inlay.

Been quite busy for the last day or two, so pardon me if I am replying posts from couple pages back...

Thanks guys :tu:

Comis you’re quite right well spotted :hatsoff:

For the last 18 months since the fires I’ve made a point of stopping at the exact same place and climbing a rock up to this spot so I can record the recovery of the bush. It’s getting better, there’s some canopy now for the first time

Not sure you can tell from the photos below but in the first one, where it’s still recovering it’s very scrubby and in the second that escaped the fires much more lush with much thicker bush…it’s a stunning walk down there

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)
That's must be a relieve to see the recovery going on so well!

Wow! That’s something you don’t see often!

Carried my S17 in my pocket all day.  No particular use today, other than reaching down into my pocket to admire it once in a while.  :like:
I got my Evolution S17 a new friend, the Huntsman this weekend.  They have much in common.  The locking blade makes the S17 indispensable for me though.

They both pack quite the punch in functionality as an EDC for both the urban and outdoors.  Both are great SAK options!

I don't know, these SAKs have a tendency to multiply, and I have a feeling the new Huntsman won't be the last of em!   :climber:

My collection so far on the bottom photo.  From the top, Huntsman, S17, Compact, Swiss Champ, Recruit.

Nice collection growing there!  I know everyone loves Huntsman, but as a big supporter of metal file/saw, I would really recommend folks to give Mountainer a try as well.  A metal file/saw may able to do what a woodsaw does in a pinch, but never the other way around.

Great toolset indeed. If only it had the in-line awl as well. :like:
That would make it even more unique, wouldn't it? (I just look it up in SAKwiki out of curiosity, sad they don't have that puppy)

Day 17
I had my evogrip 18 with me out in the garage. It’s a great knife - but needed to pull out my Leatherman wave when I needed a file for my PVC trim.
Rizio inspired me to get out my watch openers. I love the old alox, and I really like the crossbow tang stamps. Turns out only one is a Wenger. There are a couple of secretaries (I think) in there, too, along with their slightly larger cousin!

I think the watchmaker is surely a really unique tool, so niche and perfect for scales replacement!

I can eat anything with enough hot sauce.
That's gonna open a lot of doors for trying new things...I know some good folks whom won't go anywhere unless they have their hot sauce right on their person.(no kidding, they EDC their own local hot sauce)

Interesting spray, looks almost like a flashlight.  But wouldn't it be slightly difficult to point to the right direction in the dark?

Sorry, I'm just going to interject here - Nix... you sick smurf.
Never did imagine Vegemite will lure you out...

Day 18
More garage work today, but no use for a SAK.  I got out my little collection of M61s.  You can tell by the dates, but only the 64 and 75 are Wengers.  Too bad the blade and can opener on the 64 have been modified, but the scales are in great shape.  The Thylacine is keeping an eye things, to continue the Aussie theme.
Very nice collection! :like:

Yup. A good test is when I forget to take it out of my sweatpants pocket when I go to bed, and then don't notice it until I get up in the morning. That means it's slim and light enough to be unnoticeable. The Waiter and Bantam both pass this rule. My next SAK purchase will be an Alox Bantam.
As weird as it might sound, I am a pretty heavy sleeper and did sleep with many SAKs in the past.  I think the biggest might even be a swisschamp, but definitely 3-4 layers constantly.  But I know what you mean, the single layer are so so easy to carry, they just melt and disappear inside the pocket.

Matching colours, coincidence? I think not :pok: :tu:

All these Vegemite talk in the last few pages really got me curious...gonna find it and give that a try sometime.

Evo 10 opened some mail this morning. Finally some more .44 caliber gas checks.
At lunchtime it cut up some goose salami.
