Beer Beans Brats and Blades
on: May 01, 2021, 01:45:41 AM
When you always have a multitool in your pocket, the notion of a quick, and easy meal that's always in the house can be a bit different.  You don't have to resort to dry pasta from the pantry and a jar of sauce.  When you have easy access to the contents of cans and bottles, the possibilities are endless.

And let's be honest, when you have a can opener, bottle opener, and knife in your pocket all the time, you're always looking for an excuse to use them.

At the end of a long day at work, or stomping around the forest, there's nothing more satisfying than a cold beer and warm beans with a couple of brats.  What's more, there's nothing more satisfying than preparing them with your multitool that has a bottle opener, can opener, and a blade.  After all, you've been carrying those tools around every day just for this occasion, haven't you?

Well, maybe there is one thing that can be more satisfying...  it's when you get to share it with your friends.

Here it is - my Beer, Beans, Brats, and Blade - an Irish stout beer, American baked beans, German brats, and a Swiss Army Soldier with the three tools that were put to the task.

This thread is for all of you who carry a multitool or Swiss Army Knife, always ready to open a can or bottle at any time, to share a picture of the meal that makes it all worth it

Today's Menu

American baked beans with bourbon. Bratwurst sliced and crisped up in a skillet with Indian spices, and a lager from Spain.  Victorinox Champion in service.

The brats were great, a riff on Currywurst, with the flavor in the brat instead of the sauce.  The kicked up beans balance it nicely since the sauce is sweet.  I was thinking about being a purist, and skipping the sauerkraut for the Beer Beans and Brats photo op, but it's a must-have for me when it comes to brats.

And if Victorinox made a hobotool, we could actually eat our meals with our tools. :pok:

We just had cheddar injected brats the other day, not bad, I also had a red hot frank which was larger then the brat and covered with chili and cheese, which I thought was better but I also spent the rest of the night in an 5 x 7 room, and taking tums, I think old age is kicking in,

It happens to the best of us.  to be honest though, I've never been keen on brats with cheese inside.  I actually passed up a couple of options at the grocery store yesterday.  I find that the cheese just alters the texture of the brat.

As for the beans.... the other day I made a (supposedly) Italian style white bean salad, that turned out surprisingly good.  In our old age, I think it's a good option to add some fresh veggies into our diet.  If a 1/4 of a tomato counts as a veggie.... even though its a fruit.    :dunno:
