Autumn clean:

My 1st competitive Smith season is in the bag. Learning curve wasn’t very deep, quite happy camper me.
Time for a bit more thorough cleaning then

Why does that n frame look small in that photo

With a full season in the bag, what's your opinion on the Smith vs Ruger?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Why does that n frame look small in that photo

With a full season in the bag, what's your opinion on the Smith vs Ruger?  Inquiring minds want to know!

In order to keep this fair I'll skip 4" vs 6,5" barrels effect on aiming/hitting metal at distance, 9 mm vs. .357 felt recoil, emptying + reloading and capacity issues (obviously Smith cleans the table on these, with say Super GP100 things might be different)

With that in mind, here's my take:
Advantage SW 929 PC:
- trigger, mine hasn't been touched but it is better than GP100's that has been touched by someone who knows his business and yet Smith has better pull
- weight, fully loaded SW feels lighter in hand than empty Ruger
- cylinder release, Smith's push forward mechanism is simply better, especially while moving
- support, Smith dominates IPSC revo circuit, support, advice etc. available

Advantage Ruger GP100:
- reliability. Ruger just runs, with Smith there are what I guess can be called SW quirks, screws getting loose and requiring attention is not a big thing but that does not exist on Ruger
- speed. This might be a bit unfair to Smith, but I was expecting faster splits in, say classic Bill Drill. As it stands, Ruger mechanism is good enough to keep up and frame weight means that I'm not really getting faster times. Keeping in mind that this is 9 vs. .357 mag I'm marking this as point for the Ruger

Sums up as 4-2 for the Smith, I'll give GP100 0,5 bonus point on looks (PC guns look a bit too fancy for my taste) and that brings the situation up to 4-2,5
Of course, if/when the factors ruled out in the beginning are taken into consideration it is even clearer.
Game, set and match for Smith

All in all I'm happy that I switched over to the dark side (9mm and 8 holes in a revo, by Harry!) and also satisfied with my choice. Super GP100s are rare, wait lists long and currently I don't thing it would've served me better than the 929

Oh, ok. Didn't the tweezers handled it? Those you could use together with the magnifying glass at the same time.

Not these splinters, didnt get enough pressure on tweezers to pull splinters out

Day 48

Used the large screwdriver to pry the lid off a can of wax. Also used the universal scaler to check the lube level in a transfer case. The fill hole diameter is smaller than my finger diameter. No pictures of that, not enough hands.
