Fixing a Rebar! Blade swap
on: January 15, 2022, 11:53:39 PM
I got this very nice Rebar with Cabelas written on the handle on ebay last week for a very good price :woohoo:

The reason I got it for a really good price was that the blade was in rough shape :ahhh I did know this before bidding  ;) :D Every other tool in it looks brand new :ahhh :gimme:

Sure, that I had another blade to put in this Rebar, I threw a bid in and won :woohoo:

Received it yesterday evening in the mail :mail:

I decide that I would fix it this morning :tu:

Taking pictures and all, it took about 6 minutes to take apart and put it back together :like:

I now have an almost brand new Rebar for a very excellent price :woohoo:

Fun little project and I got to use a blade that I had sitting in spare parts :tu:

I could have also sent it to warranty but I usually refrain from doing this unless I am the one to damage the tool  plus it would have costed me more in shipping :D

Plus, this was a fun little project that didn't take any time at all :tu:

Great to have access to spare parts!

If that happened here, I’d probably end up with a PE blade-less but instead add a package opener while I figure out how to ‘fix’ the chipped PE blade.

I have plenty of spare parts from over the years of modding and have bought or traded for some parts over the years :tu:

I could have opted to sharpen one of the chips out and/or reprofiling the bigger chip away

The good blade that I used came from a Rebar that I had traded for, that Rebar had a regular plier head like the second generation Wave has, I also got a busted up Wave from another member here and after combing those 2 to make a hybrid tool (the Reave) I had several parts left from both the Rebar and the Wave :tu:

Always a love for the Loki Wrenches 8) :like:

Good job Poncho.  :tu:

Any ideas on what to do with the chipped blade?

It will likely stay in my box of knife blades but I could reprofile it and possible make a tanto blade or a short Electrician type blade similar to ones that Sam makes  I was just going for a factory new look in this Rebar :tu:

Nice find poncho! I wonder how they did that to the blade. I have a set of those spanners coming from Russia probably on Monday.

Thanks Steve,  Adam,  cnlson and nakken :hatsoff:

Congrats on getting a set of the wrenches, cnlson  :woohoo: :like:

Also the blade looked to have been the only tool that they used and was treated rough, it wasn't even sharp :ahhh
