If there is one thing I've taken away from this challenge, it is that a folding hunter is an excellent food prep tool.

Great work by awl! :tu:

Day 26
I used the Ka-Bar 3189 to angrily slice away a small oak branch that poked me in the face and almost got under my glasses when I got out of the car after parking under a tree this morning, but I didn't get a picture of that, so here's a glamor shot taken this evening.  I think some of my best pictures are taken after dark when I can't even see the knife until the flash goes off.  It just works.

Day 27

Today I used the late Uncle Henry LB7 to hack, slash and chop some vines. Even used the tip of the blade to pry some of the vines away from the wall before slashing them.
I've used it for this sort of work quite a bit btw, during the 2 or 3 years I've had it.

Don't do it,,,,, I promise the smoke flavored glaze is quite addictive. This has been our camping tradition for many years.

Folding Hunter Challenge,,, Day 29,,,, 1995 Case Blackhorn

As a metal detectorist, I have developed a habit of always scanning the ground as I walk. As a result I am always finding stuff that others have lost. This morning I went exploring in a wooded area near our campsite. Yesterday I saw two frolicking fawns in that area. Today I didn't see any deer, but I did find one abandoned Easter egg,,,,, with a dollar laying beside it. SCORE!! So far on this trip I have found the dollar, a monster truck toy and a like new Zebco 404 fishing rod/reel combo.

Day 30  :woohoo:

The Lineup, top to bottom:

1) Old Timer USA 7OT. Maybe my overall favorite because it has the somewhat rare 1095 carbon steel blade.

2) Current production Uncle Henry LB7. My functional favorite because it has endured two or three years of hard use (some would say abuse) and remains tight, unchipped, unbroken and holds a good edge. It actually compares quite favorably to the old one, while being cheaper and easier to replace if necessary.

3) Uncle Henry USA LB7. Another strong contender for favorite. Way better than any Buck 110, in my view. The only reason I placed the current production (very slightly, and only for carry and hard use) above this one is the ease of replacement, so that I don't worry about loss or damage.

4) Old Timer USA 6OT. Just added this one during the Challenge. I like it, but I like the 7OT more.

5) Old Timer USA 51OT. This one is one of my all time favorite folders. I've had it for ~20 years, and EDC'd it for a few years. It's a very good all around knife, and probably the best of this lineup for food prep because of the wide blade and lack of a nail nick.

6) Big Boy from SMKW. I really don't take this one seriously, but it does seem to be made of okay steel, has a good edge and locks up tight. I might throw this one in my truck or something. If anything happens to it, I seriously doubt I will replace it.

7) Rough Ryder. I really like this one. Nice thick, carbon steel (T10) blade. RR makes some incredibly high quality knives for the price. The only downside to this one is that it is a linerlock. If it had a back lock, it would move up near the top.

8) Mercator Black Cat carbon. Really like this one, too. I EDC it quite a bit because it has that great Solingen carbon steel, and is thin enough to not need a carry pouch.

9) Opinel No. 10 carbon. I like the steel and it takes a very good edge. Good for food prep. Not really a big fan of the Opinel for carry, though. I would carry literally any other knife on this list (yes, even the Big Boy) in preference to the Opinel.

10) The other French knife on the list, the Douk Douk, I would carry every day without issue. In fact, until this Challenge began, I was EDCing this knife in my pocket and my Swisschamp in a belt pouch. The Douk Douk and the Black Cat are my top contenders for pocket carry.

Ok, so that's my lineup for 2022. Congrats to everyone who finished the Challenge! I had a lot of fun with it, and am looking forward to next year.  :hatsoff:
