Well now, it's Independence Day here in the US.  So, what's my Spartan doing?  It's cutting thread.  No scissors but the small blade does it perfectly well.

Happy 4th.

Day 04

The spartan got a new suit! Love these green scales, have the same on my Explorer and it feels good to have plus scales on the Spartan! Second pair of green scales, second pair marked a bit by pliers putting them on

Day 04. Black Spartan letter opening today. I find the small blade preferable for letter opening and the black scales have that kind of office suit image to them. But who am I kidding when you work from home ?

Day 4 (so far)

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Today I’m carrying my Tourist which is about one year old. Hooray for 84mm SAKs!

So far I have used the reamer function of the awl to get some crud out of my fingernails after pulling weeds in the backyard.

Nice! I think I'll carry mine tomorrow. Both of mine are '80s or '90s vintage and have no lanyard rings, and I took some nylon scales off one of my Waiters to convert it into the perfect user.

Day 11

Similar to PitCarver, small blade stepped in where I normally would've used scissors. In some ways, I think I miss the extra tools less on the Spartan than I did on the Huntsman challenge last month. With less to work with, I think I'm less inclined to find "weird" things to use my knife on, and a little more willing to get creative.

Powernoodle Day 5

I made a fruit fly trap using the Spartan's awl.  I have tested this method vs. an inverted funnel in a quart jar, and have also tried red wine vs. apple cider vinegar as an attractant.  While I do not need a trap that often, I have found that both methods and both attractants are very effective.

Day 5 (so far...)

No uses yet but I am going to do some yard work this evening so, there's always a chance!

But here's a picture of the three SAKs I'm using during the challenge.

Tourist, brand new Spartan, mid-70s Spartan/Standard. I'm carrying the Tourist again today.

It really knots my gizzard when a package, that's supposed to tear open, doesn't.  My Spartan came in just to slice it right open without issues.

I have a Sportsman around that I might have to bring in for a bit.   I love the 84/85mm SAKs.

84mm is my favorite size and I really wish there were more variety available at that size. I haven’t bought a Sportsman yet but it’s on my list! If they count towards the challenge I may pick one up sooner rather than later…

I don’t own any of the 85mm Delemonts/former Wengers. I’m tempted but I hear the scissors aren’t great.

Day 5 (cont.)

I tried to use the corkscrew to untie a very tight knot in a plastic grocery sack. It didn’t work so I used the main blade to cut the knot off the bag. Take that, stupid knot!
