Day 7

I am not sure if trads are defined by pattern only or also by the materials. So, if this one falls outside the boundaries, I will do penance by posting a different picture.

SOG Contractor III

I want to really like this knife. The blade shape pleases me. The knife feels good in my hand. The screwdriver blade aligns with the centerline of the handle (unlike the Buck 812). I don't actually care too much that the steel is a bit soft (6Cr12MoV). What I don't like is that the cutting blade has a back lock instead of being slipjoint, and the release for that lock is at the end of the handle. That makes it unhandy to close.

A couple of other things that irk me:

One of the tiny Torx screws for the scales fell out in my pocket, and another one was loose

The knife jumped out of my pocket while under a house. I had to crawl back under and search for it   :D

I love using the sheepsfoot blade to open packages.

Is that the one I sent you? If so, I didn't think the back springs were too bad. But then again, I like a bit stronger pull.
If that's carbon steel, I'd say you're trying to force a patina!

And as awlways, y'awl are toting some wonderful trads! :tu:

Day 7

This one may not qualify; if that's the case, I'll post a make-up photo tomorrow. It'll get the pfrsantos stamp of approval regardless! It's a MAM Filmam 2B, a pretty darn good friction folder that can be had for under $10. Today I used it to free a few bandanas from their envelope.

My Grandfather taught me to always serve Apple Sauce with Pork Chops.  I have and my kids all serve with Apple Sauce with Pork Chops, even now they also prepare dressing as that is how their mother served pork chops for my birthday dinner.

Day 7
Today was another Cripple Creek.  Opened and cut some cheese for tacos.  Also opened a couple packages containing a new to me knife and patch from a couple trades.  Although, my wife, who isn’t really into knives, just claimed the Giant Mouse.  Well, I can’t really complain because she lets me get what I want no questions.  Now I know she likes micarta.

I have a couple of trads with G-10 covers. I had another decked out in Kirinite (which is now one of Aloha's favorites). Some trads can be had with more modern steels. So, as I see it, it's strictly the pattern.

Yes, This is the Schrade 219 I received from Farmer X and today I used it to open a case of bottled water.  Also, I seem to be getting used to the tight springs after filing down my chewed up thumb nail a bit.  It seems my nails get softer if I let them get too long.

I agree I think.  Modern cover material on a trad pattern, is still a trad pattern.  However, I would also add 'construction" to the equation.  So a trad looking knife held together with Torx screws has moved a step too far to be a proper trad (to my way of thinking anyway, YMMV). :)

Day 08

With all the chat that was had over Whittler patterns yesterday, it was an easy choice for me today.  I've been forcing myself to carry some knives that I don't regularly pick up, but this one is no chore at all.  Love the twin backspring construction and pretty much everything about it.  Size, weight, F&F, etc.

That's a beauty.

My wife actually quite likes a MT, knife etc. as well but the last one she saw me get, and express and interest in, was a vintage pen-knife that was a gift from a forum member.  Reluctantly I had to tell her to keep her paws off.  :D
