Forgot yesterday’s picture

Day 23
No change in carry, so I took a use picture of the Voyageur trimming a couple threads from my sandals.

(Image removed from quote.)

Day 24
The one Bad thing about the Spirit MXBS is that there is no saw if you are planning on using outdoors.  For this reason the Farmer X was swapped in for today’s carry.

Spirit MX opens a box of small pouch I recently ordered, the cuben fibre ones are so light, they almost felt like air.

Nice haul! Details and reviews, ehh  :pok:

Day 25
A friend asked to borrow my knife today and I had to ask him "which one?" Whereupon I began to empty my pockets while he stood there, amazed as I placed everything on the table in front of him.  He said it reminded him of the "Leave your weapons here" scene in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and he threatened to start calling me Max.  I'm looking forward to ending this challenge so I can put away at least 3 of these knives.

There are worse ways to get nicknames

Watch a youtube review on this, and sounds like it can be 'tuned'?  Anyhow, it actually looks pretty nice, it's a shame the original maker didn't want to mass produce it.  This totally could have been taken up by a more reputable maker and make it better than what it is now.

It can probably be bent to fix the issue, it's the kind of lock where a soft deployment will give you like a 5-10% lock up that can either slip further in, or slip out. I did know about this, but I haven't used this one in a while and forgot about it until it was too late (down sides to cycling through a larger collection).

Day 25

Spent most of the day in a training course, today. I ended up with my MiniChamp becoming a fidget toy, but since I couldn't really interrupt the course by taking loads of photos, I thought I'd show you how I carry it instead...

Having seen how wrecked my LM Squirt PS4 has become while clipped to my keys, I really don't like the idea of the MiniChamp celidor scales being similarly brutalised. I don't wear jeans anyway, though a recent post suggested the watch pocket isn't a good place for the MC either. So I keep mine in my wallet.

I have an old PacSafe Walletsafe 50, which is like really old, from back when Heinnie Haynes were still EE33 Tactical Outfitters (about 2006) or something. PacSafe don't make these any more, and haven't done for quite some time. The plasti-rubber branding has dissolved away and the security chain key-ring wore out earlier this year, but everything else is still in working order. It's got two internal slots for cards or folded notes (bills) and a zipped pocket on the outside for coins. The closest product to this, and I have one ready in case the PacSafe dies) is the Chums Surfshorts.

So, in the card section, I have a modified card with elastic loops to hold the MiniChamp, two flash drives and a USB C to Micro adapter. I simply took a spare plastic card, put some stitch holes in it with a SAK awl, and then stitched a 2" wide elastic strip to make loops, a bit like shell holders on shotgun stocks. The loops don't need to be desperately tight as the card itself sits inside the wallet, and simply wrapping the elastic over the item you want to hold results in enough tension once it's stitched on to grip the item snugly. To finish, I simply put a strip of duck tape around the exposed ends, which also helps the card slide in and out easier, although it does stay in the wallet well enough that you can remove whichever item you need without yanking the whole thing out.

OK, enough yabbering Tasky. Just show 'em the bloody thing!!

The Altimeter rotated out, and a Camper rotated in. Before and after pictures are shown. The Classic SDs screwdriver helped remove the old scales.

Day 26
Today I switched out a few items.  Mountaineer, MXBS, Yeoman with saw.
(Image removed from quote.)

For the fun of it, I left in the tool card and decided it could be my daytime timekeeping device.  Although my angle was off, the time was still pretty close.

That fixie is another winner  :dd:

I love that you used the wallet tool for that, a fun and I'm sure valuable skill to have! How is it as a wallet tool? I've never had one besides my Swisscard and they never seem to end up being useful from videos etc.

That is a great looking knife Comis.  Congratulations!  I sure hope your new Fiddleback Forge knife will make an appearance in the October fixed blade challenge. What kind of sheath do you have for it?
Thanks Alan!  TBH, I don't know just yet, I think I am going to store this in a zipped pouch for now.  But when I do use it, I do have a few leather sheath that fits laying around.

That is beautiful
:hatsoff:

We usually do the 3 topping large for $7.99 (one pizza per person), and then you get free 2 topping mediums from time to time when your points build up.

 :salute:  :ahhh
I remembered reading this later at night, and the next lunch, I ate a large all by myself with the little guy.

Is there a link for the fixed blade challenge?
I too did look for it, and am thinking maybe the sign up having started yet?

The Brisa bobtail helped open a few packed goodies.  Maybe it is years of habit, I found myself constantly reaching for a SAK or MT in my right sided pocket, when I usually have a fixed blade right on my belt in this challenge.

This one is loaded to perform all sorts of different tasks and with any multitool some it does good and some not so good.  It also is not the most comfortable tool to use, but that is another obvious sacrifice to keep size and shape.  It is the best I’ve tried overall in the one-piece multitool category(wouldn’t put SwissCard in this because of the pull out tools).  To me it is a neat little back-up or emergency tool that can also be fun to play with.

I haven’t tried to do everything, but most it seems to be good enough at, except the cord cutter.  I don’t know if mine just wasn’t sharpened properly or what but the cord cutter does not cut at all.  The cutting edge obviously isn’t a knife but it has a good enough edge to open a box or package.  The bit driver is interesting in that it is designed to use LM bits as well 1/4in.  The small ruler can be nice to have.  The can and bottle opener will work, but there are obviously better options.  Many of the various other tools (wrenches, tire gauge, protractor, etc) will work if need, but are rarely needed by average person.  I like to occasionally play with the sundial and range finder which are good enough if you know what you are doing, but more just fun.

Day 26
Nothing much out of the ordinary today, so here's a typical example of how often I end up using a SAK to fix stuff... in this case, the bow on my daughter's hair clip:

Day 27
Can't help it, just have to fiddle...
Stopped for lunch in the local playground, where there's a naval theme and loads of play boat things. This one is a kind of raft, with a roof and a mast. I noticed the roof had a couple of screws that had loosened, so I tightened them up... the sharper-eyed will notice they're Torx-type screws, but the ILP still worked a treat on 'em!

Great photos, y'awl! :tu:

Day 27

The usual suspects changed today. The dedicated knife is a 2008 Case 10318, in red G-10. Underneath the gear is a Wazoo Survival Gear tracking bandana. I awlso realized I failed to include my "wallet" in yesterday's photo. Today it made it into the photo.

Mine was purchased from Case Knife Outlet last year, and I think I got the last two they had in stock. I'd be happy to provide the item number if desired. Case does have some red G-10 that's still on the primary market:

Powernoodle Day 27

(Image removed from quote.)
Earplugs take up very little space in the pocket, and can save the day.

Can't agree more, earplugs are must if I am travelling on long haul flight. :tu:

Day 28

Usually the straw would come right out of the plastic wrapping, but this one is particularly stubborn.  So out come the Spirit X to save the day.
Sitting next to me, little guy kept asking me what tool I used for the straw wrapping, and I told him it was the scissors on my 'Victorinox'.  Later on, he whipped out the 'Victorinox' hobo tool I gave him last year, and showed me how to use "Victorinox" for various chores.

TBH, I think the can opener may have worked as well. They weren't especially tight and so long as you have two 'splines' that are in line, they should fit into the socket corners of the right size Torx...

Day 28

Honestly, I think EDC stands for Everyday Dad Carry, as that seems to be what half my kit is geared around. I have pockets full of tissues, plasters and associated gubbins.
You saw on page 4 that I keep a couple short lengths of paracord to hand. One reason is that so many play areas round here have water-play features. Today was a place with a hand pump up top, which poured water into a series of shallow basins with gated sluices that are increasingly lower. These feed flow into various interactive sciencey water features that similarly lift, move or spray water... meaning kids are gonna get wet.

This does necessitate carrying a spare set of clothing and a microfibre towel, but also leaves you with wet clothing to deal with... unless you lash it to the outside of your pack with a paracord laundry line:

Of course there was a picnic lunch that saw the SAKs in use for all the usual stuff, but I'm sure you dont need to see an apple being cut, right?

My pen also swapped into the Olight O'Pen 2 (w/blue tritium insert), I often end up writing in my own shadow when making work notes, this feature of the pen was used to remedy that.

The hygiene item swapped out today for a smallish pack of wipes, they wiped down the blade of the sunshine Classic after it got used as a fork again, as well as giving my desk and PC peripherals a bit of a swish. Have a pack of these wipes in the glovebox of my car, they're a 15 pack, but a 5 pack would be more ideal for pocket carry.

Tried shaving with the Brisa Bobtail and totally failed on my behind, 20 deg per side is still probably no where near as sharp as regular shaving blades.  It may work in a pinch, but it is gonna be one bloody, painful shave.
