Day 13:

Milwaukee Fastback Tanto

A few years back, I bought a large lot of TSA-seized knives for a Kutmaster Purina knife, and this one was in the group.  I had originally planned to just give it away in another forum's POS Exchange (along with pretty much all the rest of the lot) but kept it, as it was the first non-Benchmade I had with an AXIS-style lock.  I touched up the edge, cleaned it up, and threw it in my pocket.

Originally, it came into use as a beater version of my Benchmade Mini Griptillian, but I find the Milwaukee more comfortable to use (no aggressive checkering to dig into my hand) for extended periods--and I began to carry it instead.  I shortly tried it with the spring out, only to find it was impossible to open without the pivot being ridiculously loose, so I put it back.

Honestly, of my $20-ish folders, this one is among the top of the list as being my favorite. Opens quick, really comfortable, fairly light, southpaw-friendly AXIS lock, and best of all, cheap to replace if it goes bye-bye.

I am hoping to add another one. I wish Milwaukee used the AXIS lock more, as I'm not a fan of button-lock "flick open" models.

That being said, this is definitely the knife that will replace my Leatherman Crater C33T even though it appears to be a "flick open".

All of the Milwaukee Fastback variants seem to get positive feedback! I’m thinking I should pick one up myself!  :like:

More box duty for me too! (I’m thinking I should just buy a box cutter

Also cut up some wet packaging. That is one thing I really appreciate about Victorinox - I’m not worried the blade will rust like my Leatherman’s at the mere sight of some water.

Combo Edge Challenge
Day 12 of 30
Wenger Highlander

Late entry. Had to fly to Oregon yesterday for work. Stashed the Highlander in with my tools in the belly of the plane.  Finally got a knife back in my pocket today.

Day 15

Skele on mail duty

Saw these on fleabay last week for A$40 delivered (roughly US$28) listed as a spartan and a 111mm but no more info

The 111 is a Forester that needs a very good clean and sharpen but should come up ok, but it was the incorrectly listed spartan I was interested in.

It’s actually a 1976-86 Climber with fluted corkscrew, screw on scissors, no hook and metal headed tweezers to boot, looks to be in great condition

 Day 14

Posing with my nightstand SAK, a Yeoman. I like to keep a 2 or 3 layer handy for little things. It normally gets used once or twice a month to snip a thread, tighten a drawer, etc. Been cheating a bit this month and used the scissors quite a bit. The 91mm scissors are perfect for trimming gauze, bandages, etc.

Serrations came in as an advantage over the plain edge today.  No action shot so I will try to describe it with stock photos...

I got a pint of milk that had a plastic seal around the top.  There was no perforation at all on the plastic seal, where it says "twist to open".  The plastic was so slick that the plain edge just slipped off without cutting.  I pressed the serrated edge into the plastic seal and twisted the bottle, and it worked like a charm.

Day 15:

While I had the Milwaukee Fastback and Spirit XC on me, and used them both several times (used the Fastback to cut through a vine, SwissTool Spirit XC to cut paracord, as well as bend and cut bracing wire to do a fence repair), I only got a photo of a very small job the little Gerber 450 EZ OUT Jr. in my sweatpants did.

This example was bought used, and the clip is a little loose. Locally, I can get the bigger EZ OUT Skeleton cheaper than I can get the 450 on Amazon, so I'm thinking about going back to the bigger one. I had one for a few months, but eventually gave it away, and I now miss it, as at the time, I didn't do lightweight folders. Now, they are my main focus.

It's funny how preferences like this go in cycles.  Over the years, I've gone in cycles with my preference for SAKs or folders (now I have settled on having both). With folders,  I started out with traditionals, then I went to modern (semi tactical, if you will) then back to traditional, then after a long run at SAKs, back to modern...   :ahhh
