Hmm.?  The tip of my awl is so sharp I once cut myself on it.  I could easily use it as a pen blade.  Maybe sharp is the anomaly and dull is the norm, or maybe the dull tips have simply been used more and have worn down.  :dunno:

So here’s the awls on both of mine. But look sharp enough, but actually feel dull compared with the 91mm or 93mm. I suppose I have used them a bit. They work fine enough.

Day 16

Removed this pencil sharpener. I have a nice electric one, but I'll keep this around as a backup.

Day 16

Last week I discovered the siding on our house was bulging. Huge birds nest was in there. So, today took off a layer, removed the nest, nailed it back in place. I also cut a few squares to temporarily cover some holes in the overhang corners until I can rip out and replace it. Danged squirrels or chipmunks.

So today used the pliers, pry bar, and can opener to carefully remove the siding nails. Used the awl to reshape a couple of the nail holes after messing them up pull the nails. Used the saw and file to shape the hole covers.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Also did a bit more comparison with the Huntsman. No real difference here except again the comfort. There must be subtle differences between the teeth.

Day 10
I used the Spirit's scissors to cut open some crab legs for supper.

This is a proper use of the strong spirit snips!  :like:  my real question is how long did it take to clean… I know I would make a right mess.

No use for Spirit. Oiled my Spydie. Starting to think I’m not a multi tool guy at this point. Work has been slow though.

@Barry -  No my Spirit has not been my EDC till this challenge.  I did complete a 30 day Spirit Challenge with the Butterblade , and then acquired a Spear point PE iirc early 2022, when I learned they may fade away.  Today that one is yet NEW!

My EDC has been usually my REBAR, a Bond in waist back and ST300 part of tool kit.

So adjusting to the Spirit and outside accessible implement has been a challenge as I continually am opening the handle
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I expected work today for my Spirit, but  I owed you awl a picture and explanation.

This darn tool is just a piece of steel that is a doggone work of art…

I remembered one of us colored in the brand logo during one of the challenges Barry hosted, here I tried to do the same thing just for fun.

I remember that Comis.... looks great!  I'm surprised Vic hasn't thought of that too.

Day 17: Used the small screwdriver to tighten some screws on my screen door.

I know what you're saying about opening the handles up to get a tool LC
Vic did an incredible job designing this one.  I read somewhere that it's the Ferrari of multitools.

Is there anyone present that actually does EDC a Spirit?
For my urban life, a regular 3-4 layers SAK is plenty, and I will carry a separate Knipex cobra XS if I am carrying a sling.

I find the combo more versatile and lighter than a MT, even Spirit is probably one of the lightest weight of mid size MT there is.

I wonder how long will it take before a pencil sharpener become a museum piece?

I grow up using pen and pencil to write and a typewriter or word processor (anyone remembered that?) was a luxury I only discovered later on in life.

Nowadays, except for tax or form filling, I probably could get by without using any writing instruments for days, even weeks, if not for the little ones.  Crazy if you asked me when I was a boy.

I was curious about your last comment.  I thought the Spirit felt heavier in my hand.

So dug out the food scale my wife acquired many moons ago🙄 and never used, replaced the battery and zero’d the scale.   Never used 😉 I found it was still locked mode💕

The Vic Spirit X w/Butterblade = 211 grams

The Rebar stainless = 189 grams

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Spirit is prettier, the Rebar looks classy😉

Day 17
Will post a use picture if there is action later, but thought best to insert my required daily while I remembered😜

LC, thanks for doing this.  I remembered weighing it against Charge and/or Wave, but I'm sure there are probably even lighter mid size tool such as Skeletool that I've missed too. :D

Oh, btw, you've mentioned in previous post that plain edge Spirit is going to be phrased out?  Did you remember where did you get that news?  I love the plain edge, and would hate to see that go. :-\

A three peat quote, WOW!  It was not that newsh worthy🙄
used
Actually, I do not remember  exactly, possible it was with my  in the hallowed threads on this forum.

I recalled, being absent from here for a while, some discussions, that rewoke my need for steel🙄

I  had the Spirit X w/BBl, used for the Spirit 30 day.  Was  on the Spear point option and had trouble locating.  Kept finding the newer One handed options.  Then visited my trusty Cutlery Shoppe and the Spirit X Spear point was on closeout for under $100, so I jumped on it.

My deduction from those experiences may have led to my suspected conclusion.  So much change! Also, my lack of knowledge of the Vic made MT models.    Also, the new MX styled tools.

So not one thread or posting, but a bunch of observations and new models from a pretty stable manufacturer.

Still happy I acquired the PE to compliment my Butterblade.  And from what I see prices at today a bargain😉

~

PS: I compared it to the REBAR because the tool set is most comparable to the Spirit and size.

A Skeletool is not in the same class and the WAVE and CHARGE are same size but not the Classic design as the Spirit and Rebar.   OR, SOG Paratool or Gerber MP400.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Sorry for the wild quotes, I was on the road when replying, should definitely be more careful next time. :salute:

After the question, I went on Google to do a quick search and found an older post with folks discussing about the discontinuation and what's new in 2022.  But instead of the plain edge, folks here were saying butter blade was being discontinued in 2019-2020.  Here is a link to that previous discussion if anyone is interested:

https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=88740.30

But having said that, I do wonder whether the original Spirit X plain edge will really be discontinued, since the Spirit MX is now out.  The original Spirit X is a pretty decent package and probably would suit well with the local law in some European countries, it'd be a shame it does get discontinued.

Unless doing a Challenge I always have a BO Spirit in my belt sheath or an OG butter blade Spirit with the pocket clip in umm… my pocket.

:like: It's always been a tough choice between the Spirit and the Swiss Champ for me.  I know the Champ's tool layout with my eyes shut, and it does so much well.  The Spirit, though, carries nicer for me and has just the right amount of tools to cover everything you might need.  In terms of tool set, it's very close to the Craftsman.  I can definitely speak to the ruggedness of the Spirit.
Unless doing a Challenge I always have a BO Spirit in my belt sheath or an OG butter blade Spirit with the pocket clip in umm… my pocket.
