Depending on the retention you could spydie flick it open, once you play around with a knife for a little it's easy and intuitive. Not the intended method, certainly, but it is doable and the split gives righties and lefties a blade each without needing specifically handed MTs.
When you buy one be sure to make a vid and post it,to show us how to "spydie-flick" that tool.LOL

Not really sure what you're finding ridiculous here, the prospect of flicking open a non-hole opening knife or a MT for some reason? If the latter, what about it being a MT makes that laughable?

Anyone else feel like Leatherman just a significant amount of whatever edge they had over Vic MTs?

Even if it is better than Leatherman in every way, Leatherman's reputation completely overshadows it (here in the US anyway).  I endlessly bore my friends, family, and workmates talking about multitools, and you would be surprised how few people even heard of Victorinox (although all know Swiss Army Knife).  On the other hand, everyone knows Leatherman.  In fact, a lot of people just call any multitool a Leatherman.   That name recognition is hard to beat.

Personally, I don't know until I get my hands on one.  Before the addition of a one-hand opening blade, I wouldn't even consider a Swisstool being in the same league as Leatherman.  Now that it has one, Leatherman still has an advantage in other areas (much less expensive and a lot more variety).  I don't have any brand loyalty - I just like what works for me best.  I'm going to buy a MXBS and give it a test drive.  If I like it more than my Leathermans, then I'll be a Swisstool guy  :tu:

Ahh price is one thing that I could see, that's unfortunately a US specific thing though. The new spirit with clip is £160, however, a Wave + without the clip is £135. Whilst it's cheaper, the polish and F&F shows the difference in price.

I can definitely see people doing the 'Leatherman' thing, it's like everyone here calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover

Here, a Wave is $109 and a Spirit MX is $162... that's about 50% more. Ouch.

For "fit and finish", I don't see much of a difference between the two brands.   :dunno:

That new blackout version is a good excuse for me to finally try a Spirit. Even though I’ve never been a fan or real user of ‘pliers-based’ mutitools.

Wow!  A one-handed opening blade *and* a pocket clip  :o  Welcome to the 21st century, Victorinox!   :tu:  I finally have a reason to use a Swisstool  :woohoo:

I've been waiting for the MXBS to be available, but that MX Clip??? Get in my cart! Got them both. 😁
Hey, its become apparent that a custom grail knife I've been chasing a while is basically not available in any reasonable quantities, so I had some $ burning a hole in my pocket.

What's that curved serrated blade on the MXBS used for though?  ???
Am assuming a pocket clip could be attached to it. Although I do not usually use a pocket clip, they do help hold it in the holster. Something I discovered with the Leatherman Charge TTi, that extra security is reassuring. And having to work on a ladder at times, the pocket clip on the Spirit might come in handy. Be a good spot to attach a lanyard when working up higher.

They are usually for cutting seatbelts or straps.

Swiss Tool Spirit MX

(This image seems wrong with two OH blades)

Yep second image definitely looks wrong on the Vic website for the MX model

https://www.victorinox.com/global/en/Products/Swiss-Army-Knives/Swiss-Tools/Swiss-Tool-Spirit-MX-Clip/p/3.0224.MKB1?fbclid=IwAR3Nn6Q7cD1vyQZ98UIuUAENym9HKGUzQxItnd_keRCFKRg4ntf26xOks5g

From the tool list it also looks like this model does not have a main blade

Gotta say though - These new models look really nice, with the thumbstud, tools set, coating and clip    :D    :D    :D

Hey - I don't see the original version of the Spirit with the so called butter knife on the website any more.
Was last known as the Swisstool Spirit XC (3.0227)

Is it withdrawn ?   ???

They discontinued it in 2019/2020, and went with a plain edge blade as the "default" swisstool. Managed to pick one up on clearance for like $64 new, which I consider a steal!

Ah thanks bobartig - Better update the Wiki

PS. That was an amazing price    :D

Funny isn't it when Vic discontinues something - and therefore retailers reduce the price - whereas, as far as we are concenrned, this increases the value!!  Happened to me on the 111mm WorkChamp slidelock version   :tu:  - Although not as dramatic a deal as you got!!   ;)

Eek! I see that Amazon list them as Currently Unavailable now. Got that odd serrated blade last year when I was planning on sending the Spirit X in for a custom leather sheath order (but never did).
  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ET6AC8/

I've been EDCing this, mostly for work, as that serrated blade actually comes in handy a lot. Just sharpening it, when the time comes, is not going to be fun.

Do not see the Swiss Tool Spirit MXBS on Amazon...  :-\  Also do not see a sheath for this model on Swiss Tool's site... odd. ???  Those OHO must be an issue since pocket clip is on the other end.
US listing: https://www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Products/Swiss-Army-Knives/Swiss-Tools/Swiss-Tool-Spirit-MXBS/p/3.0226.M3N  And the Pocket Clip is not included in that $200 price.

If this picture is accurate, then you would open one blade with your right hand but would have to open the second blade with your left hand.

You certainly couldn't open both blades with the same hand.

(Image removed from quote.)

you can swap the clip around which is a big selling point.

I'm really excited by these, especially the One Hand Opening options. This may be my first Spirit, just need to see how many organs I need to sell to get one here in Oz  :D

The clip definitely takes care of the finger studs catching on the sheath.  I love my Swisstools, but the price is a wee bit steep for this poor civil servant

Now I need a pocket clip as well

I was thinking about to sell my “original” SwissTool Spirit (XC) after buying a SwissTool Spirit MX clip.  ???

But since it was discontinued I have a reason to keep it (I can tell my wife it’s a ‘rare’ item  :D).

I just saw the full sized Swisstool has the one hand opening feature too, along with the clip.  It's a RS version.  I might just sell a limb or two . I'd jump on the Spirit if I can get the funds together. It's on the US site for $199

MXBS (Spirit) £200 GBP = $272 USD

MXBS (SwissTool) £205 GBP = $280 USD
FFS!!! Vic' nothing, then everything  :twak: :twak: :twak:

If I have to sell anymore body parts I'll need NHO (No Hand Opening)

Funnny that isn't it.

My lovely wife got me an original Spirit - And I was pretty thrilled (I love it) - But also a little disapponted as I would have preferred (at the time) the X model with the regular drop-point blade.

Now it's discontinued - I suddenly find myself loving it and very happy to have a 'rarity'.

It's also good to have that blade as it is pretty unusual - And works suberbly on all materials !

I also wondered if ever I was held up in a country that did not allow knives - whether I could claim that that blade was not a knife - As it has no point and is wavy !!  Maybe say it's a saw  ???       :dunno:

So, I did a little math.

My XC came from a dealer for the $65 price.

My full size SwissTool was a V2, which a previous owner butchered (good vintage condition my arse!!!) Warranty replaced it with a new one. That one was $40.

My LMs.

My Charge TTi was bought used from a member here for $70.

My Wave was $35, bought from Lowe's when the Wave Plus was introduced.

My Surge was $45, bought from a local surplus store. I believe it had been a display.

So, all three of these (plus a pocket clip--as the Charge TTi was sold to me with a second clip, but I bought my first shortly after I bought the Surge) still cost less than the Spirit MX/MXBS.

I will be buying the clip however alone for my XC.
