An eBay seller was offering the 2 screw set for $5 shipped, so I went ahead and bought them.

Very cool!  I see you have a little inner OCD just like I do    Those empty holes bug me way more than they should, but I haven't decided on what to do yet.  I keep thinking about putting Zapwizard's Barnacle or PCDoodle's flashlight there, but I don't want something that sticks up too far.  I'll probably end up doing the same as you.

I'm rethinking if I want the flashlight there, now that you mention it.     Either way, I do like the finished look of something there.

Is ARC an acronym for something? In all the literature on the Leatherman website, it is always in all caps. Anybody got any info?

PST, MUT, OHT.... now ARC?

I'm guessing its just a name, like Juice or Squirt, which doesn't really mean anything.  It might represent the trajectory of Leatherman's anticipated revenue stream, ARCing toward the heavens, if enough people buy a $229 MT.

Maybe Arc is just another play on "Wave" like the "Curl".

My guess is Leatherman solicited a query amongst its employees to find a fitting name in the A's, as this would be a top of the line multitool.

Would like to invest in an Arc but got the Garage #5 at $275  minus shipping. If I could get some of the Arc's guts into the G005 then maybe. In time extra parts might migrate to Ebay vendors. Think I will keep the Awl though. Might change the tip though to me more awl shaped. The \/ wire stripper is what I miss. Maybe will use a Dremel to put one in.

Am surprised there was no tweezers or toothpick slid under/between the scales. And where is this lanyard attachment I keep hearing about on the Arc?

I much more prefer the scales of Garage #5 though.

Funny,  I think I might have a collectors ARC with a defect in the logo on the plier head, LOL. Looks like they got carried away with grinding the pliers and took part of "Leatherman" off in the process. Does not impact the tool in any way.  I find it a little funny with QC at the factory.

I also have a little nib on the inside of the locking mechanism that stops the bit exchanger from fully deploying. It stops at 22 degrees, similar to SAKs. Weird. After  the stop, it fully deploys.

I also seem to have some weld splatter or something inside the locking mechanism.... at first I thought it was a detent to allow the driver to stop at an offset,  like on some Victorinox MTs. On one hand,  it is not visible and the tools deploy fine. On the other hand, I don't think this is intended... maybe it will wear smooth over time or maybe I can take a file to it? Or should I send it back? Qc seems to be a continuing issue with LM, unfortunately.

Geez maybe send it back?  Seems like it has multiple little QC misses.  Mine was buttery smooth and I was pleased.  I know LM has some gaps in their QC it seems though at times.

Congratulations DT and MrTJ :woohoo:

But I think I would send that one back MrTJ  hopefully get a good turn around with warranty or maybe be able to swap it wherever it was bought :salute:

I'd make leatherman aware, and then I'd just use it till something really breaks. Send it in for warranty for a broken implement once that happens

Sorry to see yours isn't up to par MrTJ... I'd also go the warranty route if that had happened to me, especially as you're in the US (right?).

Thanks Monrogue and Poncho65 - I like it so far. From the implements I'd say this is more what the Free P4 should have been like from the get go, to be more versatile and universal... the large bit driver and a nice file are valuable additions. I doubt I'll use the small bit driver a lot though.

The price is hefty though, and the European markup adds to this. Good thing it was a present  :D
Cheers!

Yes that was my thought too - it’s what the Free P4 should’ve been.  I like the changes in the ARC as it’s a really good edc piece compared to the P4.  However, I also agree that the price seems rather high.  I hadn’t treated myself to a multi in a long time, and figured this one would serve as a great total package so to speak.
