Gary pointed me to a an EDC Pocket Dump Badge.  Would anyone else mind helping me get it?

Day 2

It's supposed to be an easy day so we'll just do a glamour shot for now.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Lots of good posts on this challenge.  Maybe BP will get to use his Swiza soon, and we will get a good report on it.
   Best wishes.  Gary

Day 21

Next up is the Rough Ryder Reserve Common Stock Pattern.  Why not just call it a stockman?  No idea; I don’t think Case has copyrighted that term, like they did sodbuster and hobo.

This is full-size/large stockman at 4 1/4” long.  It features a main clip point blade, secondary sheepsfoot blade, a bottle opener/screwdriver, stainless steel bolsters, brass liners, micarta scales, and D2 blades.

F&F are very good.  Springs are stronger than average, probably 8/10.

I suppose I could fish the Swiza out and carry it for the Christmas party we're going to tomorrow.

For today Day 22

Cut the sleeves off an old t-shirt. Blade did pretty well, scissors struck out. Did just a little with the Vic scissors to compare and they handled a lot better.

Day 22 - another one

Needed to cut open this filament bag as I have to get cranking on 3D printing some gifts for my brother-in-laws.

I got an Arc company edc carrier/wallet for something different. I'm going to try and put together some rocking chairs at work, hopefully an action shot later today.

Swift recovery to you and your wife BP.  We've been down that road two times too many already.

Day 23

Took it easy today and invited some friends over for fajitas and brews so no hard work for the Voss today.  Here's a nice glamour shot of it next to one of my early presents.  A nice sleeve for my Minichamp.  I don't think I'll be able to misplace this bright color.

More rocking chairs to put together, maybe we'll sell through them all today. It's crazy how much torque I can get on screws with the Armbar at 90°

This came in the other day, but finally got around to opening it.

A Fisherman with the file Philips!

If Vic put the file back on, I'd be a lot more interested in Tinker family models...

The scissors were a bit loose, but the awl handled it. Not the best screwdriver, but technically worked every time I've tried it this month.

Day 23

The main clip blade is my “clean” blade on this knife, being reserved for cigars, food, and any other tasks where its extra length and or more acute point provide an advantage.

It easily trimmed this cigar.

Enjoying following this one. I have a few "regular" Rough Ryders, and they're decent enough. How much of an upgrade would you say the Reserve line is?

Day 25

Merry Christmas, awl! No uses, as I mostly stayed in and nursed the wife. Still not sick, so maybe there's hope for me.

People were asking about the Swiza, so here we go... :climber:

Closed (with tweezers out)
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Swiza has a much better hand feel. I don't love the Wenger style tweezers (always feel like I'm going to lose a nail when I pull them out). Swiza is, as far as I can tell, an old watch/clock company that Peter Hug (the older Wenger CEO) bought out. We'll see a lot of Wenger style design cues here, and the line has some wacky tools (though we won't see much of them on this one). Mine is a D04, which is roughly comparable with a Highlander/Tinker.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Main blades deployed. The Swiza is sort-of OHO with enough finesse, which is about the same as can be said for the T4 (except Swiza doesn't claim to be) note the longer blade and big Wenger style belly. Blade is unlocked by pressing on the shield, again like Wenger (though you can disengage it manually like a traditional liner lock). I'm pretty sure I got this one fresh from the factory, and the edge is meh (though the T4 needed a touch up too).

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

All the more or less shared tools. Note the complete waste of a flat side on the back Phillips, which could've been a file.  That tiny awl is very sharp (sharper than the main blade OOTB).

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And the uniqueish tools. Note Swiza adopting a near Vic style can opener.

I'll see if I can get a couple of actual uses in before the month is out. If not, I'm sure it'll get some pocket time eventually.

Maybe you can stay healthy.  It's bad when everyone in the house is sick at the same time.  I am a little surprised that the Swiza didn't come sharp.  Of course, that is easily remedied.  I like the orange scales.  The awl looks a little flimsy, but you shouldn't pry with one anyway.  Sounds like you could use it for light scraping or chamfering since it is so sharp.  The blade is long enough to suit my taste anyway.  Thanks for the report and excellent pix.  Best wishes.  G

The Voss was busy today.  Between sharpening pencils, opening new toys, and cutting up the Christmas ham, it saw no rest.  Hope y'all enjoyed your day with your loved ones.

Enjoying following this one. I have a few "regular" Rough Ryders, and they're decent enough. How much of an upgrade would you say the Reserve line is?

I have some of the standard RRs as well.  I would say the Reserve line is a noticeable step up in F&F from the standard RRs, and you get the upgraded steel (D2) vs. the standard no name stainless/440A/no name carbon steel.

You’re looking at a price point that is considerably higher though:  more like $40 - $60 for most RRR models vs. a lot of the standard RR line in the $10 - $20 range.

I see the improvement opportunities for the RRR line as follows:
1. There are a number of fairly sharp corners and edges on the knife when closed.  Some time spent at the factory smoothing/rounding these out would make the knife more comfortable in both pocket and hand.
2. Some of these RRRs are unnecessarily beefy, meaning they are carrying more weight than necessary for no benefit.  I was a bit surprised when my scale revealed this RRR stockman (at 4.0 ounces) to be only about 11% heavier than a comparable (right down to the black micarta scales) Case 75 pattern stockman (3.6 ounces).  I would have guessed more.
3. While I think it is clear that D2 is a step up from RR standard steel, I would love to see some offerings in 154CM, S35VN, or etc.

Day 24

The sheepsfoot blade is my “dirty”/general utility blade on this knife.  I pretty much use it for everything within its capability that doesn’t require a “clean” blade.

The sheepsfoot blade opened this package of new sticks with no problem, and no fear of adhesive residue.
