Day 14: I've been wanting to try this for awhile.  Other than as a thread holder for the mighty awl, I have no idea why Vic put the hook here.  Done carefully, it can be used to cinch up your laces  :D

Day 14

An unconventional use of pliers...I am not a wimp, but this package was welded shut. They worked perfectly.

Using the spearpoint blade to assist with food prep duties. Works great, although a tad too small.

Day 21

Got anew to me used XBS... overall good condition. The Phillips has a little wear on the tip and the chisel is tiny but loose,  but other than that in great condition. Not sure if the pliers have ever been used.  I cleaned it and did a little sharpening on the blade. This is my second XBS. Yes, I seem to have a problem with acquiring Spirits.

Day 22

Used the Phillips to dismantle an edge trimmer. Unfortunately I wore this one out and had the white smoke. No way to salvage it.  But it was nice to have a tool on hand to try.

Still using my Spirit for home projects.  We wired some new outlets a few days ago. I primarily used wire strippers and linesman pliers but there were a few times the Spirit helped out.  Used it stripping wire and for screw drivers and pliers.

I thought I’d do a little comparison with the Electrician and the Sog wire stripper I added to my Kick. The Spirit chisel and wire stripper combo tool was the easiest to use.  Also, the spirit wire cutters cut hard wire so much easier than the kick.  I think the Spirit wire stripper makes the most clean cut.

The Electrician blade cuts through romex great.  It took a bit more action than I wanted to strip the wire.

The SOG wire strippers on my  Kick just don’t work well for heavier gauge wire.  The 12 slot was actually too wide I had to use the 14 slot for this 12AWG wire.  It isn’t very sharp and made a mess of the copper.  I tried getting some leverage on the insulation a couple different ways. Worked best to just fully extend the wire strippers and squeeze the end tab.  The wire stripper on the Leatherman can opener works OK and I’ve used it before just not here.

The Spirit beats out again.

That's a great post GB! I don't have a SOG wire stripper on my Powerlock so I've not had the opportunity to give it a try.  It definitely looks the part, but I find you can't beat the Spirit's wire stripper either.

Thanks, Barry!  It’s not a very good wire stripper for large gauge.  It does however work well for the smaller gauges.  I’m overall quite happy with how the Spirit has handled these new house projects.

Great post, GB. I too like the wire stripping capabilities of the Spirit. I prefer it over my Leathermans. I think the blade is sharper and I think the outward facing tools make it more comfortable, at least to me.
