Day 17

Classic 66 = Classic 63 (Entree) + saw

Great, lightweight outdoor companion. Similar to Vic Walker. The Walker looks more elegant with its thinner scales and more pointy and less deep saw (the Wenger saw protrudes a bit unsightly from the side view), but the addition of corkscrew makes the Classic 66 a clear winner for me vs the Walker.

Day 17

Finally, some rain here.  I'm sure all the little frogs that hatched out during the summer and never learned to swim have drowned by now.  I sweated yesterday.  Some brainless boob must have been burning leaves or brush or something.  I could smell the smoke and got visions of fleeing for my life until the fires go swoosh over me and turn me into crispy fritter configuration.
I did use the Wenger saw a couple of times.  You would think a saw on an 85mm might not work so well.  Actually, the saw has teeth clear to the end almost and worked pretty well.  I sawed off this maybe three quarters of an inch dead overhang.  Seasoned wood cuts harder than green.  The Handyman coped with it.  I also cut off a sprig or two of holly.  A little harder time than my 108mm.  Best wishes.  G

Day 17 - part2

After 4 days of heavy rain (unfotunatelly some parts of the country are heavilly flooded, but my city is not impacted), the sun is back so we had good evening time on the balcony - classic 66 cut the bread, cheese and ham and opened bottle of  strong belgian beer (not my usual treat - normally I prefer lagers/pilsners or IPAs).

Day 17

Scissors cut some construction paper to make it fit in a die cut machine at work. The Wenger scissors are nice for firmer stuff like this.

The main takeaways for today: I forgot to declare that I own the Evolution 23 because Mrs. FX thought I should have an SAK with a magnifier, I should see if that Evolution 23 uses a Victorinox or Wenger type of saw, and I have to wonder how strong that Belgian beer was. (The strongest beer I've ever had was 14% ABV.)

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 17

A pair of Highlanders.  :hatsoff: to AzteCypher for sending them to me, and :twak: to me for breaking a toothpick off in that logo scale. (Part of that toothpick remains impacted in there.)

Maxlvledc has posted a great video explaining things for the Flex, as well as tips. With no modification at all, you can get two long tools in one side. So I put the saw next to my blade. :salute:

Day 18 - Wenger Tahara Mod 1908 P

Apart from being a bit of a nail breaker as a lot of these oldies are, it would still make an excellent carry. Blades quite sharp and the tools are rock solid

I really am. I was a fan of Roxon ever since their first multi-tool, the Storm. Even now, with everyone making Wave and Surge look-alikes, Roxon made the Flex, and it is just excellent. I might bother buying a new laptop, just so I can get back to reviewing tools.

Day 18

Just like last month's challenge.  The first ten days dragged away.  Mountain ranges rose and were eroded away.  Rivers dried up.  Civilizations grew, prospered, and fell while the sands covered up the ruins.  Then some unseen hand on a giant rusty lever somewhere threw everything back into high gear again.
I need to fix some breakfast.  No leftover pizza or anything just lying around.  Refused to pay the store's extorted prices for eggs, so I can't have that.  Finished off the counterfeit rice crispies last week.  No fruit.  Bacon?  Sausage?  Ham?  I have vague remembrances of those things.  Maybe I just imagined them.  Probably in a dream.  Rice?  No.  You really can't go home again.
I'll think of something.  Might make some cinnamon toast.  How about another Wenger photo with some fall weeds in the background?  Yeah.  Best wishes.  G

Day 17Posting a day late.

When I acquired this Serrated Traveler it was in pretty rough shape.  It had definitely seen better days.  After multiple cleanings and oiling, all the tools are functional with at least a soft snap.  The back scale is a little lifted from one end but it's definitely on there.  Perhaps too close to a heat source?  There are no scale tools on this one.  I'm not keen on the 60/40 serration but I find it interesting so it's earned a place in my collection.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Do you think the serrations were factory made or was the blade modified by an owner of the knife?

Also, it appears there is good amount of metal removed when looking at the choice. And cuts toward the tip appear to be shallower, or it maybe the camera angle.

I have a Spartan with a serrated blade, and the entire blade is serrated with the same cuts.

And my OHT, the serrations are at the tip working back to about 60%, also the same cuts.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Today with Wenger Viking. Got it just today morning and decided to with it. Its bit rough condition, small blade tip is broken and overall its stiff.

The serrations are original but it looks like they tried to sharpen the whole blade like a regular edge, thereby causing the serrations to become a bit dull.  Closer to the tip of the blade it looks like they over sharpened it and remove more material than necessary.  I was able to sharpen the serrations  and the regular edge.  It's usable even if it does look a little odd.

Congrats on the new S54! I keep wondering how difficult it would be to make a custom variant with an adapted Cybertool bit driver in place of the relatively-useless orienteering tool. The knife is so close to having a perfect toolset for my daily carry, and unlike the similarly-sized SwissChamp XLT, it has a locking blade and the trademark ergonomic grip handles. The collector in me doesn't want to carve up my existing S54 to experiment on it, but I might order a second one soon just to be a sacrificial lamb.

I remember reading a while back that Victorinox was discontinuing the Delémont line, but I still see them widely available; was that rumor false, or is there just a lot of unsold stock still in the retail pipeline?

It's actually a Tool Chest Plus so no lock. I don't really see one as a necessity on a knife of this type. I would love to swap the bitdriver in, but I think that's probably beyond my current modding skills. Really, I think it's weird that there's no way to get the pliers, saw, and fish scaler on a knife without the orienteering tool. The OT is a neat gimmick, but I don't know that it's really a practical tool. I guess I'll find out, I think I'll try to find a local orienteering course and put it through its paces.

What tools are you looking for on it that aren't on the CT-L? By my count, the only things you're missing are the mag glass and the wrench.

@ReamerPunch: you now have me thinking of testing out a Flex as a work multi, especially if the tools are easily swapped.

@Echotech: where and how do you find all those beauties?

@Humayd A R Mahomedy: just a clean and sharpen, I assume?

@z1913:  :like:

@IMR4198: I hope you were able to find something tasty, or at least palatable. My breakfasts are likely to be counterfeit Pop-Tarts, fortified breakfast shake (to help with weight gain), and coffee.

@AzetCypher: nice to see it still ticking! :tu:

@Antti Lammi: it could be a lot worse!

@LoopCutter: cute Beagle! And rhe surprise box is awlways fun to go through.

@BPRoberts: looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that beast!

Another great day y'awl! :2tu:

Day 18

Somehow I overlooked one of those pesky plastic staple-things in this blanket. This morning I discovered the offending object and used the tweezers to remove it.

Magnifying glass, wrench and the locking blade. But you're right, the CT L is a pretty close fit; the fun of modding, though, is that you don't have to settle for "close"!
