Day 30
As always a great challenge with a lot of great knives.

My choice to end is a Rough Rider Muskrat that was a parting gift from a ship I was stationed on.

Obviously, people are welcome to go to 31 if they want. The badge scout badge would only need 30. Most of our other badges are 30, and I don't see any reason to make things harder on people.

30 Scouts in 30 Days: DAY 30!

When I originally calculated my 30 Scouts I included my Pioneers, which gave me well over 30. When I remembered I couldn't use them for this challenge, it got a little hairy. But after a bunch of rummaging through drawers I found one more. A humble and obviously well used Jowika camper.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

It's a fitting way to end the challenge. Not a fancy $3000 Magnacut Mammoth Horn monstrosity. Just a $10 beater that someone took to work in their pocket and beat up on camping trips. That's what the Scout knife is. A humble, but infinitely practical pattern.

Thanks for everyone for joining in, especially Steve for hosting. And thanks to Dean for helping make this place such a great forum. He passed before I signed on, but I'm glad for him and everyone else who got this place started and kept it going for the last 18 years.

Day 30

Forgot to get a pic of the Scout cutting the weed whacker line but I remembered to get one of me cutting some sunflowers from our garden for my little girl.

It's been an honor and a pleasure going on this journal with y'all, in memory of Dean.

One more pic tomorrow for good measure.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 31.

It's not the highest quality knife I own, though certainly well made, but it is one of my favourites.  A perfect wee penknife.

Day 31.  :hatsoff:

The GECs were featured for the past 30 days. Now, a few others insisted to be part of the parade.

I will humbly admit that these four styles would have never been in my household if not for the education I was exposed to at MTo and examples of knives shared.

The slip joint is a work of art!  And then understanding Carbon blades and patina adds a new deminsion  to the back story. 😎

Day 31 to round out the month:

The 35 scout that has been with me as the only mnife to cut stuff other than food all month. Had to use scissors on a vic classic a couple times or so, and of course a multi if i needed pliers/screwdriver etc, but if a knife was needed, the 35 was used.

Today’s guest star is a GEC 48. One of if not my all time favorite traditional knife.

I need to charge up the phone and get to the nightly chores, so this post will be brief. It was a treat seeing the variety if different knives, spending some time with my Camillus 99, and honoring a well-loved MTo member who left us too soon.

Hahaha forgot to post Yesterday.

Day 30 & 31

A line up of most of what I carried over the month, I missed the scout knife from the first few days.

edit: non traditional picture removed

And this is from today, going back to my sinful multi knife ways. Well minus my Leatherman wave that I've been carrying most of this year.

Day 30 GEC

My GEC Family  Photo

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

They each survived the assigned chores.

The model 23 (top) is a beast!  Able to do any chore imaginable by me.  The skinner blade developed more patina during this challenge despite the very strong, nail breaking strong back springs.   It will return to the display case after an oil wipe down.

The English Jack (2nd down) was my favorite to use. This  is perfect in my hand. The pen blade is large enough for many tasks and the clip serves well for everything as well.

The Liberty Jack (3rd) found favor with me, serving pocket duty with no bulky issues and would hide away without printing.

The Barlow, is a Barlow, in awl  manners. Well built, stout and sturdy.  Just a tad small for my hands, yet capable !

I admit, that do to Dean’s passion, shared with David and Steve, my respect and knowledge of traditional pockets knives would have never grown, or my pocketbook shrunk. 😳

It is true honor to show respect to an excellent member of the MTo family that shared his knowledge with such integrity, and pride.  :hatsoff: :salute:

Badge awarded !

I like the easy-open feature on those handy little knives. Mine would see more use if I had a backup.
