Congrats to BP
I loved reading this thread and despite the GAW concluding, I think I’ll add a few memories anyway
I have lots of great memories, so when trying to think of a favorite lots of things flood my mind.
Many are associated with challenges which are great. I especially liked the Poker Face and Gas Station MRE, which are so different from many of the other ones.
Another is the Surprise Box, that continues to grow after almost 3 years because of the generosity of members. It started as a cool way to pass on some items I had that weren’t being used. I expected the box to go to a few people and that would be it, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The box has stalled a few times but overall just keeps going. It is just nice to see it keep moving and the joy when people choose different items to keep.

Thanks, awl! My wife actually carries a Poweraccess when she needs something heavier than an SAK, and has agreed to test the Powerlock on anything I can find for her to fix.
If nothing else, I will have fun making a Honey-Do list for her. I guess I'll have to learn how to do some of her chores in return.

First impressions
I've had a couple SOGs before, but never a PowerLock. Cool to try something new. My understanding is that this is more or less SOG's flagship tool, albeit an older design than some of the others.
Pro:
SOG has probably the nice action out of any of the major manufacturers. Pliers butterflied on the first try, and are smooth as silk. No break in required. Individual tools awlso deploy nicely, save for the file, which sat so low in the handle that, combined with the BO coating, I actually thought it was missing for a minute. Could probably OHO even the interior tools with a little dexterity in an emergency. I awlso like SOG's big easy lever locks. Simple, durable, nonfiddly.
Light for a tool of this size. SOG specs list the weight at 9.6oz, same as a ST300, but it felt lighter to me. When I weighed both (I need to get a better scale) I came up closer to 9.25 for the SOG and 9.75 for the ST300. Half an ounce isn't nothing.
Tools are all of decent size, and appear to be well designed. The awl is a real pointy awl, the phillips has decent reach, etc.
Very nice sheath. Thick nylon, fits the tool comfortably without breaking in, and it includes a clip instead of just a belt loop.
User swappable tools, sold on the website. Nice to be able to swap/maintain/mod at will without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Fasteners are a standard torx button screw.
Tiny swing out exterior lanyard loop. LM used a similar style on the PST, then switched to the interior one. I like this one better. Lower profile and doesn't take up interior tool space.
Cons:
I don't love the SOG bit doohickey. No bits or adapter included, which kind of surprises me for a "premium" tool, and it takes up a slot (granted a rather thin one) compared to LM/Gerber who fit them over an existing tool. Awlso surprised that this one can't take a bit in the plier pivot the way my other SOGs can. Maybe time for a PL3.0? Have to track down my SOG kit. My office is taken apart for painting, but it's with my PowerAccess somewhere.
Messy out of the box. I know some amount of oil and BO grime is normal, but this is by far the messiest multi I've ever unboxed. I tend to overoil my tools, and even I had to wipe it down. Nothing a quick wipe/rinse and dry can't fix, but I want to be fair.
Other thoughts:
If you wanted to push the weight even lower, I wonder how much you could save by taking the interior covers off.
Kind of weird to have an inside opening SOG, all my others are outside. These are some comfy handles though. Smooth, no pinch. I thought the covers looked a little silly, but they are nice.
Never had a tool with a v-cutter like this before. If I don't like it, I guess I can put in the scissors or something.
Like the original MPs, this has what looks like a spacer. Pondering what I could squeeze in if I modded...
Hopefully, my wife will agree to carry it after she sees how big it is. If not, I'll be happy to play with it...

There's a few cool responses to your concerns about the PowerLock, and some very awesome Multitool History in there too!
A lot of folks don't like the bit driver, even though it accepts standard sockets, and is the only tool on the market to do it. But, all of the internal functions are removable and replaceable, so if you decide you wants something different in that slot, it's about $8 on SOG's website for a new component, and about ten minutes of your time to swap it out.
As for the flappy metal covers, they are removable but they are also classic- they hearken back to the days when Leatherman was Uber successful with the PST and every other manufacturer was looking for a chance to create their own design, and one that addressed the most glaring issue with the PST.
Yup- the exposed sheet metal handles!
Gerber came out with a sliding head, Schrade rotated the handles 90 degrees, Buck made their 360 tool do the splits, Bear rotated the handles so the tools opened from the outside and SOG just stuck some flat sheet metal covers in to protect your hands.
Brilliant in its simplicity, and easy to remove or re attach whenever you want.
It's hard to underestimate the influence the PowerLock has had o. The Multitool world.

Used it to fix a detached toilet chain flapper already. Good awl! Pliers have the same issue as most butterfly multis with not being good at flexing out (say to open up a mostly closed chain-ring). I grabbed the PowerAccess for an all SOG themed assist and they did fine grabbing from both sides at once.. Did a great job closing the rings.
I expect the flapper is on its last flaps (I've fixed it twice since we bought the house this spring) but it's working for now, and convenient that it gave me an excuse to try the new tool.
I never thought about the fact that it could take sockets
and
bits. That is neat. Combined with the newer style plier head with the hex slot, I'd say that gives SOG a fair advantage over other companies if you swap bits and sockets a lot and need an MT.

One thing has me curious: how much pouch protrudes above the top of the clip? SOG offers a plain edge blade as a replacement, which is a bonus for me (I have more serrated and combo-edge blades than I'll ever need as it is). Great write-up that has me much more interested in the PowerLock!
