What was the first multi tool ever in history, or considered as the very first multi tool in history?   Do you happen to own it?  use it?

These things have been around a long time.  Evidently there is a Roman multi in a museum in Britain.  It is a sort of 'hobo knife' and has a spoon, fork, blade, etc.  Fit right into your toga.  Best wishes.  G

Hey Barry, did you notice in the picture that there was a piece of an 1800 year old Slim Jim stuck in it?  Probably still good.  Best wishes.  G

There are a lot of cool answers to this question and they are all correct depending on your definition of which era you are talking about.

One answer is a toss up between a stick and a rock, as both were tools with multiple purposes.

Another good answer is the Roman tool posted above.

There are also a series here called "Before there was Leatherman" in which out own multitools historian J-Sews looks at plier based multitools that were available prior to Tim Leatherman's 12 in 1 tool being released in the early 80's.

Undoubtedly the first multitool of the modern era is that 12 in 1 tool, which was eventually named the PST or Pocket Survival Tool.

Do you have the “before leatherman” link handy?
It does not come up when I search.  That would be as the kids say be “dope” to read.

This was all I could find here for some reason:

Before there was Leatherman Chapter 5

Here is a thread to all the original links at BF, but the couple I tried seem to be broken:

I don't know that Bob ever got around to doing the second look at all of it- I think it was one of those things where you just need a little bit more to do it right, but you never get that little bit.   :D

:like:  Wow never imagined the first MT in human civilization could go as far back as the ancient Roman times.

Cheers thanks for those links. Shame the rest don’t work but the Leatherman and wrench models was a good read.
