DAY 27  More dirt!  A large retailer has a sale, and it's a good thing.  Hiker has opened a dozen today.

I promise there's a Hiker tightening up a loose strike plate in this pic. You just have to trust me.

Day 28

After years of using cheap indoor clothes racks which always start to deposit bits of white plastic everywhere after a few years, decided to get a decent one

Day 28:
Its going to be a long one. Started off the day at 3am when my little boy fell out of bed and hit his mouth on the nightstand. Gashed his lip open pretty bad and knocked a front tooth loose. So off to the ER we went. They ended up just gluing it and we got home at 4am. Still have to get ahold of the dentist to see what we may need to do about the tooth but at least its not a permanent tooth. Just downed my Emergen-C for the day and trudging on.

For drying clothes? I prefer 240V for that purpose.

Off to the ER we went.
Hope the little guy will be healed up in no time flat!

Day 28

The Hiker was used to open the package...

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

But a General 744 4-in-1 pocket screwdriver was needed to manipulate some tiny screws.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I'd be shocked if anyone knows what the little black object is. Saying the batteries I removed from it were probably ~35 years old isn't likely to help much.

I prefer hanging them outside on the line but this is good for when it’s raining. I do have a tumble dryer but clothes dry very quickly outside in the sun and it’s free    :D

Cut some string to tie a box shut. The knife on the right is similar to, but not the same model as the one in the box. Higo No Kami are Japanese friction folders.

Day 29

I was used the small blade to remove the plastic insert from the slot of a kid’s coin bank.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

It was perforated but the plastic was so soft that you really couldn’t get it off with your fingers cleanly.

@Echotech: it rains in Australia? I remember Darwin as being very warm and dry.

@Barry Rowland: that mug looks like a telephoto lens!

@Fireman: I don't recognize the rifle rounds, but I'm pretty sure I see 12GA, .38 Special or .357 Magnum, and .45 ACP. How did I do?

@BPRoberts: what is the Higo No Kami's handle made of?

@marlowe221: I bet your kids are glad you carry an SAK!

Just one more day, folks!

Day 29

No use today, so here's a photo of the Hiker on my microwave oven's turntable. Be glad that A) you're seeing the "after" photo and B) I'm not on a tirade about that thing.

March 30 Day Hiker Challenge
Day 28 of 30

It the pawn shop today I stumbled across this multi-meter designed for the HVAC service technician,,, for $20. While I am an electrician by trade, and have several multi-meters,,,, I do not own one that checks microfarads,,,, and have needed one many times over the years. The problem is,, the meter would not power on. The shop owner has always stood behind what he sells, so I went ahead and took a chance. after removing the battery cover with the Phillips head, I did find a cheap 9v that had just begun to corrode the contacts. A new battery and a bit of scraping and she fired right up. Guess we'll call it a win!! Will do a proper cleaning of the battery contacts tomorrow.

Day 30

Thanks FX and everyone it’s been most enjoyable carrying the Hiker this month. It was one of my first SAK’s but haven’t carried it that much as I soon always wanted scissors on me.

Over the years I’ve since decided I can usually get by with the scissors on the Rambler on my keychain so much less of an issue

Keep it spicy 🌶️

Day 30 already!  I love the Hiker!  It's an ideal toolset for me, as I live in the country.  It's a lot of utility in a very compact package.  Considering it's an identical toolset as the 111mm Army knife/Trekker, Vic must be thinking a long the same lines.  I could get a long with one very well.  My oldest son still carries his regularly, and he's had his for the better part of 15 years.
Thank you all for a great Challenge and thank you Dan for hosting it.  It's been way too long since I've had mine out to carry.
Barry
