Day 13

Trying to rewire and fix the heated floor in my bathroom. Minichamp actually turns out to be ideal for this kind of work, as a delicate knife and stripper for dealing with dual-insulated cable of a nonstandard size that can't be worked with traditional wire strippers.

Day 14

Took a coffee and different Swiss related things photo.  Then I started getting the dropsy.  Dropped the little green Classic.  Dropped the coffee K-Cup.  Put my cellphone in a pocket before I dropped it.  Nothing to worry about with the coffee.  It was supposed to be good to the last drop.
Finally started raining.  Might not make the turkeys and soggy deer happy, but it does help dampen the fire chances.  I looked at friend Aztec's photo.  Box of Curad bandages.  Open Curad wrappers.  Victorinox knife sharpener.  MiniChamp with the finger opener.  Sometimes called a cut-n-picker or orange peeler.  I can't figure it out.  Must have some meaning?  Best wishes.  G

Ooooh!  Swiss rolls!  Haven't had those in a while.

I also made sure to hide the red soaked items before taking the picture.

 :ahhh

PS I looked over my little green Classic.  Didn't bust anything.  Whew!  Best wishes.  G

@G-Dizzle: what is the classic you were watching, and did you make it all the way through?

@Cypren: if I wind up staying in my present house and ever get the driveway resurfaced, it will be heated.

@IMR4198: I'm currently working through genuine Little Debbie oatmeal creme pies. Swiss Rolls sound good, though.

@Explorer: :dd:

Fantastic stuff from awl! :tu:

The oatmeal creme cakes are great if you find some fresh ones on the shelf.  I like the choco coated peanut butter filled wafers.  Small Deborah calls them Nutty Buddies or something.  Easy to pack these things into a lunch box.  Best wishes.  G
 :D
PS  I was wondering what the movie was too.  Looked like someone fighting or starting a fire maybe dressed in Tyrolean hats and Lederhosen.  G

I just noticed Ex had checked in with a Bella photo.  What a sweetheart.  I don't think she ever took a bad photo.  Also, I finally solved friend Aztec's mystery post with the bandages, etc.  It was tough, but I put it all together.
I think this involves opening a bottle of Texas Pete hot sauce.  Aztec had to use his Mini to cut away the shrink wrap from the bottle top.  Then the cap was too tight, so he tapped it with the first thing he picked up.  A Victorinox sharpener.  Naturally that cracked the lid and caused a spill.  Hence the red liquid that had to be mopped up.  You can't just lick it off the table top.  Actually, you could.... but not with Amanda's disapproving eye watching every step.  The only way to repair the busted cap was with a Curad bandage.  Probably used all the tape up the last time he had the surprise box.  Pure reductive reasoning.  Impressive, right?  Best wishes.  G

Day 14

Finished printing and assembling a drill-driven filament spool winder for transferring filament from one spool to another or spooling loose filament purchased in bulk. I have some rolls on larger 2kg spools that I want to partially transfer to 1kg spools so I can use them in my multicolor printing system, which can't fit the larger variant. MC was used as a part scraper and trimmer throughout.

Day 15

Halfway through.  So far, I have used the little curved 'emergency blade' more than anything else.  I think if Victorinox saw fit to make a single layer SAK featuring an 'emergency blade' with the same sort of thin curved contour.... Make it 85 or 90mm SAK.  Could put in a combo tool.  Maybe an LED light.  Put in a hollow rivet on one end with a removable bail.  I would carry one, I think.  Best wishes.  G

Day 15

Still working through the pile of moving boxes. The massive mountain of discarded packing materials keeps growing; I suspect it'll take five or six months of packing the garbage cans full every week to get rid of all of this.

Day 16

Walmart is only a mile away, but I still run out of things.  Nothing for breakfast.  What to do?  I opened an MRE to see if there was something.  Eureka!  Two Pop Tarts.  Look like they were put in the impervious drab plastic wrapper and when they got a good sized stack of them they have someone sit on them.  Permanently compressed into one cinnamon and brown sugar wafer.  Didn't deter me.  I popped both into one toaster slot and masticated the whole thing.  They tasted fine.
Little slicey curved blade went through the plastic like nothing was even there.  I think I might start calling it the Pop Tart blade.  Plastic wrap blade?  MRE extractor blade?  Got to think of options some more.  Esquire came by just to see professional wrapper cutting in progress.  Best wishes.  G

Gary's fondness for the emergency blade has me thinking that a 58mm with just the blades would make a fantastic backup/precision cutter. Alox scales would make such a thing carry exceedingly well.

Great work from awl, as awlways! :tu:

I too like using the emergency blade. It is ideal for cutting small fruits, like pitting cherries.  Worked well for Cutting up grapes.

Day 17

It is getting colder finally.  I hear lots of mowing in the neighborhood, but it is probably just the overactive yard fanatics mulching up leaves.  There wasn't anything in the house that I really wanted for lunch yestiddy.  Since I already had a MRE pack open, I decided to risk it and make one of the heat-em-up chemical pack meals.  I thought it was spaghetti and meatballs, but it turned out to be macaroni in some kind of meat flavored sauce.  I could have read the pack, but think of the effort?
I put in the water and the meal package and shook, shook, shook it up.  It finally got hot down on one end, but didn't really heat the meal.  No sweat.  Emptied the macaroni (surprise!) into a sauce pan and heated it up electrically.  The big box said Low Sodium, so I realized that the manufacturers had run out of salt somewhere during processing.  No sweat.  Got some salt right here.  Mixed in a little and some black pepper.  My kitchen is Low Hot Sauce, since I likewise ran out of that nutrient.  And.... it was GOOD.  Not restaurant food good, but it was edible for sure.
When I went downtown Friday, I looked where the pallet of MREs were being given out.  Nada.  Then I saw back to one side, a single box of MRE meals.  The take one sign was on the ground.  I took one.  The box, not the sign.  This one is an A Pack brand, whatever that is.  Also made with no salt, or MSG, or whatever triggers the warning label.  No MSG MRE 4 IMR, WTH?
Since I made my MRE with MiniChamp post, I have been getting all sorts of MRE spam on my browser window.  That goes to show that all the best bottom feeding bots read MTO.  Or maybe just my posts?  Scary.  Best wishes.  G

Day 17:

Starting the back porch enclosure project. First step today is to start removing siding and some of the old tongue and groove paneling underneath it to see what where working with… the MC was somewhat helpful getting some nails started to pry with the flat head and spatula. Really needed the big boy tools and occasionally used the Spirit.

Also used the main blade and scissors a few times this morning.  Might see more before the day is done but I know I’ll forget to post.

@Grand_Banana: I pit cherries with my teeth  :D I've never  used fresh cherries in a recipe.

@MrToolJunkie: looks a bit like a junction box, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. What is it?

@G-Dizzle: you're getting into the holiday spirit, eh? My days of decorating for Christmas (or any holiday) are over...

@AzteCypher: is that an analog G-Shock?

@Cypren: nice group! :tu:

@IMR4198: A-Pack is one of the various civilian MRE-alikes. I don't know where they rank in terms of quality. I'll figure that out when I'm done hereabouts.

Y'awl are keeping up the good work! :2tu:
