Surge Scissors on a Rebar
on: October 20, 2024, 12:01:50 AM
Has anyone done this? I would really like the full size scissors of the Surge on a custom rebar I want to build (currently completely disassembled for cleaning). I’m willing to sacrifice any of the long tools to make it happen, socially the serrated blade.

Just looking for inspiration if anyone has already done this. Or a word of caution if it doesn’t seem doable to begin with.

Thank you,

Short answer is no and long answer no.
1. Surge scissors are allmost same lenght as whole Rebar need to mod whole scissors shorter.
2. Pivot size of Surge scissors are too large for Rebar pivot so you need to fill pivothole and then drill new holes to it.
3. After modding scissors shorter most likely on pivot side you need to drill new holes for pivot and make new spring for scissors since if you shorten it tension will be way different.
4. since Surge pivot size is larger you need to refill pivot and drill new ones.
5. Then there is locking mechanism, it has different locking mechanism than outside tools you would need to think how to make that work.

Conclusion it is way too much work and it may not even work properly afterall, but if you have spare scissors (few spare ones too) , tools, skills and most of all will to make it.
I wouldnt say its impossible but highly unlikely to happen.

Thanks Antti, those were my fears. I just really don’t like the scissor style of the Wave and other “flip style” scissors. I was looking at Wingman scissors as well, but it appears to be the same scenario you detailed in your reply, not worth it if it’s even possible. My other dream would be to use 91mm Victorinox scissors, but same scenario.

Thank you for your feedback.

91mm scissors could fit since those are proximitly same size as Rebar long tools but pivot might cause problem since it looks it needs to be bit upper but it doesnt look impossible to do, lockimg those scissors in place may have some problems and working Vic scissors is bit painful since its so hard material.

Wingman scissors are shorter than Rebar long tools and its easier to work (personally i wouldnt use Wingman scissors cause poor perfomance) .
Wingman scissors is easier to mod on and needs bit adjusting to make it fit right so spring locks correctly.  If i remember correctly Wingman scissors has same pivot size as Rebar tools.
