Day 30

After 30 days of carrying the Bond, I have decided that I do like it and I’m glad I have one.

I also realize I don’t really need a large multi-tool every day.  I did get a lot of use out of the blade though.

The tool I carry most often is the SAK Vagabond and I will carry it again starting tomorrow.

I enjoyed the challenge and I congratulate all who finished.  I appreciated the photos posted that showed the capabilities of the Bond.

Thank you to anyone who followed along and thank you to Rich_SD for organizing the challenge.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Day 30

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Bond gen I purchased after the Bond owners club started, and after reviewing page upon page of pictures and comments.   I liked it, but two things could improve it. First the pocket clip should be included, the handle holes irritated me. Second, the file should be diamond style like the Pulse and Wave!
So it gave in, ordered the clip and the Surge exchangeable blades. With that the diamond file was nested into the back of the sheath, the pancake style, with my BOND.

This BOND and sheath rides in one of my waist bags and is an essential kit when I leave the house.  And has done so since it arrived a couple years ago.

And, because of the comparisons to the PST.  I then started to find and buy PST models on the auction site. WOW.

The 2nd gen BOND was observed in the wild, a new designed blade ???, and then colors offered as well. I was tempted, unfortunately, something was different and not color models I received had the same failure, the spring friction blade broke off 😥.

Then January arrived, a challenge, and let’s get acquainted commitment.    Interest in the blade surfaced and a second BOND was ordered,!a SS model. Stiff and still stiff model, yet totally functional.

I learned to reach for the BOND instead of my REBAR, I used the bit adapter and bits with no issue. Realizing the BOND is just the “LITE” version of the REBAR. Missing for me was the SERRATED blade.

Almost the same size as the BOND I have grown fond of this tool. My broken finger nails are growing back.

A few more soaks in DAWN BLUE, for the grit feel , and well oil treatments will improve access to tools with use.

Now I have one BOND for each kit, with the trusted pliers to provide me finger function of my old digits that suffer from age and lost of feeling these 71 years.

The PSTs, my REBARs, a SuperTool 300 or two, are positioned around the house and my BONDs in bag kits, watch out world, I can handle life with style😉

Had a great time, enjoyed Viccman serving as cheer coach and a  :hatsoff: to Rich for hosting and reminding us of his love for OHO implements, yet survived the 30 days.

PS: surprised IIrc, only one appearance of the new color models this entire month, WOW🙄

I also realize I don’t really need a large multi-tool every day.

I definitely don't need an MT every day, and I wrote about this years ago.  But I still frequently carry one for the feel good factor, to know that I am slightly better prepared for this cold, cruel world, and because there are rare but real instances when I do need an MT to make life easier or even save the day.

I frequently carry a Knipex Cobra or Pliers Wrench in lieu of an MT.  This pairs well with my other toys, like my usual Victorinox Explorer Plus or Swiss Champ.  And lets face it - a Knipex is a far better grabber and turner than an MT plier, though obviously an MT like the Bond has an array of tools in addition to the plier.

Still, I am somewhat obsessed with MTs just for the preparedness factor and occasional save the day factor.

One of my favorites, especially when cost is factored in - the ST300 - is a Heavy Honey after 30 days with the skinny Bond.  This lady has had rhinoplasty.  I liked her the way she was, but she insisted.

Peace out.

Day 30

Has it been 30 days already!?

This challenge has affected my view of the Bond significantly.  I used to think of the Bond as Leatherman’s cheap tool, and that it wasn’t a tool that a serious multitool user would ever want.  This month has shown me that I was wrong.  The Bond is an extremely capable tool in a small, light, yet comfortable to use package.  Minus a saw and scissors (which I didn’t miss), it has every tool that a multitool user would want (and it even has a pocket clip).  I used to say that the Rebar was the “best bang for your buck” multitool on the market, but I think that title belongs to the Bond!

That said, the Bond isn’t for me.  I use a knife much too frequently for a tool that takes so long to deploy its blade.  Even a traditional pocketknife’s blade is quicker to deploy and use than the Bond.  I could carry a pocketknife along with the Bond, but that defeats the purpose and utility of a multitool for me.  Sorry Mr Bond, I love ya but I gotta leave ya.

~

The VagaBOND is a great companion for the BOND!

Or, any Leatherman without scissors.

My VagaBOND (aka Manger) has been in my pocket since the mid 90s since I treated myself to a CLASSIC on steroids back then. The orange peeler was what attracted me to this model.

PS: Is there a Bond badge?

There is a badge and three designs for the signature icon. There was no definite conclusion to which had the most votes, so I'll pick one, prepare the necessary pics, and it'll be added to the list shortly.

I knew I’d seen badge designs.

They all looked good, if I remember correctly.

All THREE.  VERY NICE!

The Sienna  was my choice, but two failures made me gun shy.  The friction plate/tab broke on the Sienna Coler handle.  On both the same point.
