Orders to Whidbey Island were available when I thought about re-enlisting. In hindsight, I should have taken them.

And those Belgian waffles...

Great pics JonesE!  Look at that sunshine!!
Day 12

Took, a day trip yesterday to Whidbey Island. We took the ferry from Muklteo to Clinton first. Then drove to Coupeville for lunch. After lunch and a bit of wondering around, we headed over to Fort Casey. Fort Casey was once part of a grouping of Forts around Puget Sound that was used for coastal defense. It is now a well taken care of state park. There are two, deactivated guns at the fort. The original gun were removed and theses arrived from the Philipines sometime after WWII. One is placed in the up position and the other is in the retracted. If you look North of the park, you will see Admiralty Head Lighthouse. If you look south from the park across the sound towards Port Townsend you will see Fort Worden and the Point Wilson lighthouse.

That would definitely do the trick!
Used the little flathead screwdriver as a cigar poker today.  My daughter wants to take all my stuff.
One day she'll get half of my junk.  Just not today.

Day 13

Did a four mile walk around a local lake today. Here is a quick grab shot from around the half way point.

Washington was a beautiful state to be stationed.  There's no end to what you can do!
I walked the dogs immediately afterwards.  They're definitely not lacking for calories

Day 13
A comparison of pliers from the PowerPint on left, PowerDuo center, and the PowerLock on the right.  I'm pretty sure the PowerDuo uses the same plier head as the PPP.

I think the main way to differentiate is hex bolts versus the Allen bolts. If it has the hex bolts it should be USA made. If Allen bolts Taiwan or China. With the P3, at some point production shifted from the USA to Asia. It could be that handles and parts that were already made were shipped over and assembled after production in the USA stopped. Kaevin, this maybe the reason why some P3 are stamped Lynwood but have the Allen bolts. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge can chime in.

JonesE

Thank you for the info. That makes a lot of sense. The original box seems to have a label with a certain origin covered by ANOTHER label with Taiwan as origin.

I'm loving everyone's photos.  I can't get any good ones while I'm sitting outside in the sun.

Anyway, I grabbed my little SOG Mini Instinct to join my normal carry today.  Waiting on some bits that I have on order to accompany the newest MiniChamp which I'm thinking will stay with one of the silver PowerPints.

I've EDC'd a Minichamp exactly like yours for years now PitCarver.  It hangs in a Vic leather pouch off my key fob.  I love it.

The PowerLock has an excellent saw.  I used it today to cut back some dead and very dry palm fronds.

I've only got about half a dozen of them, Barry,  I usually make my own pouches for them.  Found a different pattern that will probably be used with this one.  Soon as I get it worked out.

When I first picked one up, I cut the end from a leather glove finger and used it for a pocket holder.  It worked well for a long time, until I moved the cellidor scaled one on.

Day 14

Today, I continued on with the Grabberlock project. I sources a file from a ST300. It looks like the pivot diameter will work. The file is longer so I cut it down to match the existing file. I also cut off the kick from the file. Still need to reprofiled the area marked in black from the sharpie. I am going to cut a nick on the front edge of the file just like on the ST300. We will see if I can get it done tomorrow.

JonesE that's great!  Leatherman files are aggressive, a big improvement over SOG.

Thanks Barry and Alan. I am anxious to get it done. I only had a few minutes after work today to accomplish anything on it. Hopefully, tomorrow I can get the outside profile completed. Then it is just final fit and finish.

Day 15

Pulled the SOG file out of the GrabberLock today. Then went to my parts stash and got a ST300 pivot bolt and screw and paired up the ST300 file with the SOG file. This confirmed that the pivots are very close to the same diameter. I then clamped them together with the needle nose visegrip and sanded them to the overall profile at the belt sander. When I was satisfied with the result I them did some deburring with some sandpaper. I initially forgot to cut the nail nick on the leading edge of the file. So back out to the garage and got the die grinder out and installed a cutting disc. A couple of seconds later and the nail nick was cut.

A few minutes later and our patient is back together. Some quick observations. 1. The lock cutout in the Leatherman file is wider than the SOGs. The means that the file will have some lock rock causing the file to move axially a few degrees when in use. I don’t think it is that bad but it will annoy others. I would rather have a file that will cut metal or wood. 2. The Leatherman file is thicker than the SOGs file. This didn’t cause a problem with the mod though. Just something to be aware of.
